Alloy doors

I note that our mate Tom has an alloy door up for sale for Euro 4k... anyone ever seen any others offered for sale?
Interested in how rare they are... my 924 has a pair of alloy doors on it, and apart from Mr Freisinger, (who makes Tom look pessimistic in his pricing) there just don't seem to be any out there....
Cheers

Rick,

Barry Carter, an ace metal man who is on DDK-online (username Barry) would probably be able to knock you up a few for that price. Furthermore, Chris Flavell and Jeff at Fenn lane motorsport worked in prototyping and are well versed in making a limited run of bespoke items.

You are one of the very few people in the world who are spotting the potential of the 924Turbo for international competition and that comes with its limitations: i.e. finding out stratospheric New Old Stock or just plain old stock with bumps and dents in them.

Lets have a looksie at your last purchase in detail though..... A golden chance if any!

Hi Bert... yes reason I'm asking is I'd like to update your old car with a set to match the new purchase...

Unfortunately Freisinger whipped the car off his site before I could purloin the pics, so it'll be 4 weeks until I take some of my own....
But as noted, alloy doors, trick diff, special gearbox, dual ignition systems, lots of trick bits under the hood and prototype chassis number (actually on a 924 normal VIN as she pre-dates the Turbo VINs)... she's 005 of the 1979 924s..

And confirmed as one of the 3 remaining Safari cars (which were the first ever 924 Turbos in competition) by Jurgen Barth who built them. Used as a rally car by one of the "gang of 3" who were responsible for the project (Barth, Kausmaul and Ristl) and then bought directly from him with his name still on the car.

I mean, if the alloy doors were really valued at the same level Thomas values the 964RS 3.8 ones, they'd account for 40% of the purchase price!!

Cheers
Rick

Rick, lost the last thread where you said you'd bought the 924. An inspired choice I think. I love the logic, and I'm sure its going to work well. Nice to bring an old warhorse back to the field! Good work, please keep us posted.
