Alloy wheel treatment

My speedlines haven't faired too well in this winter weather. The spokes are fine but the outer rims really need some attention. Can anybody recommend a good cleaning product for removing road grime etc...? Thanks, Ben.

Don't use Wonder Wheels. I used it and although it doesn bring up your wheels like new it is just a bit too aggressive. It took off the laquer on my calipers and started to eat into the laquer on the wheels. If you do use it i'd recommend minimising the amount of time you keep it on your wheels before washing it off.

I now just use warm soapy water with a plastic scourer.

Muc-Off is pretty good.

Also... a few years back Mark Underwood (aka The "Wax Wizard" ) used to sell a specific wheel cleaner he called "MC2". It was widely recognised as a superb but safe wheel cleaner. It was later exposed as a trade product called Virosol ~ see HERE. Now the shrewd / sneaky (depending on your perspective) Mr U made a rather tidy profit selling this for an 800% + markup ~ but folks were happy to pay as it does a bleddy good job, is kind to the wheels and isn't expensive (ie approx £6 for 5L if you buy it in it's original trade format). I'm still using the 5l free sample he sent me... and I've had it for years and use it regularly.

And I'd use a bit of detailing clay to remove stubborn spots.

Some of the guys on the region club meets recommend using Meguiar's Hot Rims - claims to be safe on all factory-coated wheel types.

I've been using P21S citrus cleaner for removing exhaust soot and cleaning my painted wheels (can't comment on its suitability on any other finish) for a while and have found it to be excellent. However I would imagine it is very similar to that Viro-sol, which is probably a bit cheaper too [:)]

I'd guess so too [:D]

Mark U used to talk about how he made MC2 at home from the pith and skins of citrus fruit which he had to get from a juicing company. Delays in fresh citrus skin deliveries were obviously delays in sourcing some more Virosol from the trade supplier... [&:]
