Alloy wheels for 996 Coupe

I just purchased a 2001 Carrera 4 Coupe with standard five spoke 17 inch Carrera 4 wheels. I really don't like the wheels and far prefer the more common 18 inch "Turbo Look l" wheel. Any issues I need to consider? Will the speedo need re-calibrating? Do I need spacers? How do I make sure I get genuine Porsche parts? I wasn't going to buy new so was looking on Ebay, there is quite a selection.
My last 911 was a 1991 Carrera 4 which I sold back in 1998. Took some time off (marriage and children) and am back in the saddle with this 996. Wow! Its a tiptronic too and if I still have a clean licence by April I'm going to start believing in miracles.

Careful what you buy on ebay - always go and see them before parting with any money - sometimes they are off an accident damaged car and if they have not been repaired properly, they can let go - imagine that happening at 100mph!! Remember that wheels and tyres are the only bit that connect you and your car to the road - make sure you inspect them closely before buying. You could also try desing 911, they do some very good prices on recon wheels - and they won't sell rubbish. Good luck

I like the Turbo style also and they are much easier to maintain than the ClassicII's that I have. I recently spoke to Simon at Porsch-Apart about the Turbo wheels for mine and si I am sure he will be able to help you out with new or second hand. I understand that the wheels are quite different for the wider car and narrow bodied car. They may look the same they are different offsets.
Hope that helps.

Hi there,
I'm currently in the same position. I have a 2000 C2 and am looking for new wheels - currently leaning towards turbo II alloys. Do the original ones fit a narrow bodied car, i.e. the 11 wide rears? Or do i need to get tubo look alloys (replicas)?
Thanks,
Richard

Be careful with ebay. A lot of sellers deliberately mis-describe the wheels when they are from Boxsters and not 911s. Check the width of the fronts they are the first give-away. Couldn't agree more with HH2002 - I would not fancy loosing a wheel at any speed!

This should help..

Thanks for the info Black80XSA - looks like the 18 x 11'' will not fit on a C2!! or they're not recommended anyway.
Cheers

Thanks everyone for all the excellent advice, especially Black80XSA. Its exactly what I need to ensure I get the right wheels.
