Alloy wheels for pre 85 advice

Hi, I am trying to get a new set but it looks like 5x130 alloys with the right ET is so hard to find!

would anyone advice against spacers/adapters?

If you got suggestions for suppliers/model then I would be more than happy to take them in! :) I am looking for black and chrome lip or something similar to match it's white paint.

Im presuming that you know which offset youre looking for? This late in the day I think that your best chance will be either new Fuchs replicas or used Cup2 reps which were available in pre-ABS offsets. Even there though, sometimes the offsets are still less than ideal / wrong, but theyre in the right ball park.

Fuchs reps will have accurate offsets (for a 911!) so theyll fit and theyll look smart, filling the rear arch.

Why not try Simon at PorschApart in Ramsbottom , Lancashire as he has many used wheels in stock and just might have what you are looking for. He is an excellent source of info too.

Also you could try Jasmine Porschelink UK also in Lancashire.

I thought pre 85 cars (pre oval dash) came with either Cookie Cutters or Fuchs.

Design 911 do Fuchs 15" replicas in the right offsets (fronts 7.0j et23 rears 8.0j et 10) for £500 +vat. They do other sizes as well.

Id spend a little more on 16"s and get a more attractive wheel. Tyres arent cheap but neither are 15"s in suitable sizes.

I do love Fuch's! I think I've just found what I am looking for: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-17-Fuchs-Style-alloy-wheels-rims-SET-OF-4-7-5J-9-0J-/131078026595?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item1e84dbf563

17" and staggered fitment. Oh well, by the looks of it I can't just quite afford it yet. Stuck with my current alloys then. :(

Id wait until he has a little more than 16 feedback for selling cheap oil.

Given that the picture's watermarked "Design 911", and the price is identical to that at Design 911, I'd say it was pretty safe just to buy them direct from Design 911! Who are, conveniently, in the same town as the ebay seller. [&:]

Or keep it nice and original with a lovely set of reconditioned cookies...

Quality 195/65/15 Continental Premium contacts are a bargain at ~ £50-60 per corner.

You'll have more than enough grip, chassis balance, nice steering and good ride quality from only ~15kg per corner (lighter than any other Porsche wheel bar the <=7" Fuchs and steel/alu pressings)...

I agree with cookies, but I would. I run two sets, winter rally tyres on the gold ones, Vred Sportrac on the bare metal ones...

Not sure if the route I have taken is acceptable as I am on a tight budget so please correct me if needed.

I am running Cookie's on a B Reg 944 Square Dash with 205/55/15. The front end is lowered by 30mm using shorter springs and rear dropped by 20mm by adjusting the Torsion Bar height on the elipticle adjuster. The wheels fit the arches nicely with no apparent detriment to the handling. I want to drop the back end to match the front and I am led to believe that can be achieved by 're-indexing' the Torsion Bar, whatever that means. I will try and upload a pic, if that fails I will email you.

Have fun [:D]

You will definitely have fun "re-indexing" - It's a big job so you might decide you're actually happy with the current ride height

Remove the gearbox and then remove the rear torsion beam. This allows the rear torsion bars to be removed and repositioned. Add in a little trial and error seeking the correct inner spline and outer spline combo, and a couple of rebuilds and strips if you get it wrong and you probably have a whole weekend of graft ahead of you.
