I know this subject is tocuhed on all over the Forum, but never heard anyone mention any alloy refurb company in my area. I live near Cambridge and want to have my rear wheels re-done they are not bad but as i am a fuzzy one i want them 100%. Does anyone know of a good company in this area they would recommend. If people have had experince of a franchise such as wicked wheels then please let me know. I want to either have them done at home or take the car to a company localy that can do them, not so keen on having to send them off.

Thanks

Phil

Phil,

I think a lot depends on what you want (and are expecting). As far as I'm aware, all of the "come to you" people will just doa cosmetic job on the outside of the rims (the visible part) and I'm sure the majority, if not all, will not take the tyre off.

People like Pristine (in Milton Keynes) WILL remove the tyre and will repair any damage and re-machine the wheel and refinish both inside and outside to a standard better than original. I believe Pristine will collect if you are having a full set done - but it still means you've got the car on axle stands for 3 days or so. I have used Pristine on several occasions and never been disappointed. They are on 01908 282628 if you want to check them out. Quite a few manufacturers (like Aston Martin) use Pristine.

Other high recommendations are for Diamond Styling (in London). I'm afraid I don't know anyone in the Cambridge area.

Thanks for that it is how i thought it would be that the mobile guys are just cosmetic, i will give Pristine a call and see what they say to be honnest MK is not to far from me so it would not be a big problem to get them there.

Thanks for the info, very helpful.

I have just booked my car into Wicked Wheels to have all 4 alloys refurbed.
I live in Woking & they have an site in Guildford so only down the road.
Have a look at www.wickedwheels.com they have places all over the UK.
They were recommended to me by several Porsche owners who have used them & the site I am using also does all BMW's, Audi's & VW's wheel refurbing for the dealerships that are local.
Cost quoted was £50 per wheel, less if the damage is minor (which it is on 2 wheels) which sounds reasonable.

Bloody 996TT width catches you out sometimes & I caught the rears a couple of times on kerbs.

Thats intresting they quoted me £65 but that was doing it at home they seamed very helpful and i have heard of many Porsche owners who have had them done with good results.I will check the £15 diffrence they will say that it is for coming out i guess.

My OPC quoted £85.

I had mine done exactly 12 months ago and they cost £60.00 per corner and they did a terrific job. I have to tell you though I had a problem with the lacquer failing on all four rims. But to their credit they fixed the problem with out quibbling and were most apologetic. My OPC quoted £100 per rim but they are 18 inch sport design.

I thought £50 was very competitive. Remember OPC's just outsource the job to a local refurb company & add their cut so its no surprise that the cost is a lot more than going direct to places.
I will let you know how I get on with Wicked Wheels, the car goes in on the 15th.

Julian.
