Alloy wishbones.????

Big Dave

Does any of you chaps know the going rate for a pair of recond alloy lower wishbones ,, for a 944S2.????

Just fitted new front pads to my car + found some "play" in the ball joint,,[][][]
So it looks like i need a pair of new or refurbed jobs.....[][][8|][8|]

Just out of interest ,,has anybody actually seen these ball joints fail .???? I know they wear out but do they actually "let go" completely...

I'm sure i've read somewhere that they are about £150 each but I can't for the life of me remember where I've read it. I think it was an article in Porsche 911 world where a chap with an S2 track car was looking to replace his. He ended up going for a pair of those trick (and expensive) CNC machined arms as his car was lowered which aparently wears the joints out even more quickly.

Dave, Kevin was telling me that Tom Segrues "let go" during the race at the weekend and put him off the track.

I was looking for ages when they discovered what looked like a MASSIVE amount of play in mine. I asked about getting the ball joint "fixed" and Kevin gave me one of those looks that turned into a telling off and soem name calling so... I ended up getting a new set from Paragon in the states, even with the tax and import duty they were a lot cheaper than getting them from here.
Thought about 2nd hand ones but you'll never know if they are "about to start going" and I didnt want to risk it since my car lives on track.

New genuine ones are about £400 a side. I'm going to go with aftermarket ones at some point for about $1,500 the pair.

Yeah i was after the "charlie arms" but they told me that the guy that makes them wasnt amking any and they didnt know when they would be able to get some. They did mention they were working on a version but it was one of those things that I needed ASAP so I had to go for OEM. Not that it's a bad thing of course. I also got soem 968 brake cooling vanes to fit them looks a lot cooler from the front now.. like its hiding teeth!

I know the "look" well..[;)][:D][;)]

I thought about the "charlie" arms ,, only for a split second then i woke up....After i saw the price..[8|][8|][8|]...
Aparently the refurbed jobs have a 2yr warranty....

Tom,s car does get a bit more hammer than our cars.. After all were only "playing" at it.....The ones on my car have covered about 100,000 miles anyway...So i suppose there about ready for replacing....

PS hows your car.???[8|][;)][8|][;)]

I don't think $1,500 for a pair of arms that have replacable ball joints set at a better angle for lowered cars is expensive compared with £800+ for OE ones.

My front offside 'let go' when I had had my car less than a year. I was parking and that side just collapsed. Luckily I brought a warranty with the car and that paid for the repair.

Thats why I wanted the aftermarket ones as well... ended up paying just over $1000 for my OEM ones so i was happy!

Sorry, didn't know it was a S2, their i go again, not readin the small print.

How could i miss it?

To be fair I think it was just that I know Lali has an S2 from previous posts. I completely missed the OP was Dave who also has an S2.

Well ive "bitten the bullet" + fitted a pair of re-furbed Hartech units....
They refurb them In house + seemingly do a good job of them....

Theyve also fitted some polybushes into them as my "old" ones had polly bushes installed.....
If anybody else is after a set they have a number of poly bushed sets in stock.....

They were a whole heap cheaper than brand new OEM units , or Charlie arms.....

How much for the refurbs then?

Hi Paul,

I emailed Barry at Hartech in November last year as I was interested in sourcing some of their rebuilt arms.
£150.00 + £25.00 p&p next day (UK) +Vat @ 17.5% .

Unless you send or bring in the old one first - you have to also pay £75.00
+ Vat deposit refundable upon receipt of the old unit undamaged (except of
course in the ball joint area).

Regards

Dave K.

Price correct...
If you want the arms with polly bushes ,, they are a tad dearer.....as the poly bushes are that bit dearer....
