Alloys, Wheels & Interior

Hi,

I have an 88 Lux with 17 teledials and want to refurbish them, has anyone had any experiences with the mobile companies? (Alloy Magic, Wicked Wheels etc)

I also need two new tyres for the rear, they currently are Pirelli, but again wondered if anyone had any comments on other manufacturers before I buy the Pirelli's.

Also looking for a creme leather interior to replace the cloth one. (Can't find one anywhere, so if anyone has a leather interior for sale, please reply)

Thanks in advance

Original Teledials only came in 15" and 16" so I don't know what your's are, I've never heard of any 17" Teledials.

I know the Wicked Wheels in Northampton is very good.

You have to be very careful what you say these days! I will keep to the facts. I used Wicked wheels in Essex.
to refurb my 15" Teledials. It took them three attempts to get it right. Paint runs, overspray and rough pitted surfaces were some of the problems I saw. Eventually they took about 8 days and sent them away for full paint removal and recoating before I was happy. No apologies, no explanation apart from "these wheels are dificult to do". Whilst at Le Mans, I noticed a banging sound which got louder as we went on. A call to Ken at Autostrasse was made.
He told me to check all the wheel nuts. Four of the five could be turned by hand. Eternal thanks to Autostrasse. In future I will always check wheel nuts after someone else has removed them.
Would I recommend WW.? What do you think?

Just to add - don't just check the nuts! I had a very scary experience after having 2 rear tyres fitted recently. I drove off and down a dual carriage way approached 60mph and the car started to sway from side to side as if driving on oil and managed to slow down and stay on the road. I found if exceeding above 45mph the car became very unstable.
At home, checked the tyre pressure and found 55PSI in one and 60PSI in the other [&:][&:]. It seems they never reduced the pressures after bedding the tyres onto the rims.

Have you considered getting the wheels powder coated. I had a set of teledials done seven years ago and still look good with just a wipe over with a damp cloth.
Cheers,

Powder coating is the business. I had some wheels on a previous car done and they looked the business. It is more expensive though.

Might as well do them yourself with sandpaper etch primer and a can of wheel silver!! You'd get better results than that!

Sorry, 15" wheels (slip of the keyboard)

Is it easier to replace the wheels with some S2's or other porsche wheel rather than pay for the refurb?

It's certainly easy to replace them with D90s or similar from an S2. Finding a set that are good enough to use without them needing a refurb also might be the tricky part.
