Hi Gang I am loking for the best way to clean my alloys on my 1985 Carrera ..as no one in Aberdeen area can do this ..it was sugested that I use wet and dry grade 2000 on the crome parts then polish up with auto glym ...would this be ok ?

I am not familiar with specialists in Scotland, but, the fuchs wheels are polished, then anodised. That is a specialist process: not like rocket science but there are a few people that do it as the factory intended.

You can remove the anodising layer -which is a rock hard protection process- with oven cleaning fluid. Its a messy and time consuming process. Then, you outsource the wheels to have the metal polished up.

Alternatively you can try removing the anodising layer mechanically. On the US Pelican Parts forum, there was a "refinishing fuchs for dummies" guide.

Each to their own, but it looks "bling" to me. You need to keep it looking nicely with Autosol, a metal polish.

1. Nick Moss at Early 911 down in East Sussex: have a look at his website for the process involved.

In no particular order and no affiliation with either of them, but I do admire their work greatly.

If you don't use your car in winter, put it on axle stands and send them off. I would imagine that a turnaround of 6 weeks is reasonable: its nice to have it done quicker but....

In Europe there are only a handful of people who can refinish these Fuchs correctly. In the UK we are lucky that we have a number of specialists in the subject matter!

Cheers,

Bert
