Alternative pads

Can anyone advise on alternative brake pads such as EBC?

I was hoping for improved track day performance w/o too much compromise for road use.

Thanks in advance.

Andy,

Do you have the standard Boxster or the "S"? (sorry I forget!)

Have you had problems at the track? I have spent days at a time at circuits and not had problems with my S brakes.

The car is pretty much over-specced in this department (brakes from a bigger, heavier, more powerful[&o] car, fitted to a nicely balanced, light(ish) car). Shouldn't be any problems at all???

Mark

I have an S.

No real complaints with the standard set up except the amount of dust, but I've got to get new pads anyway.

Andy,

have a peek at this.....

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=22204&mpage=1&key=mintex&anchor#22601

Mintex 1144's anyone???..... Have been looking myself as I will need to get some new discs within the next 6 months and it seems the biggest problem with pads is the limited range other than OE for the newer models.

What I will be interested in is if the discs need replacing as well.

I remember a while back a flurry of postings on the Yahoo group where people had been told by OPC's that the discs need replacing at the same time as the pads.

1. Is this the same with aftermarket pads?
2. If the aftermarket pads "bite" better, do the discs wear faster as well?

Andy,

Have been trawling the web and a few comments from various sites say the EBC greens wear a bit quick, but not clear on how quick.

Simon at Essential Styling does EBC's, Ninemeister has some good info and favour Porterfield and Pagid blue pads, Design911 do fast road/track pads by Pagid. A few people on the forum favour Mintex 1144's.....

Seems like a minefield..... oh and by the way, seems a good bit of advice is to change the hoses to braided and change your fluid to ATE super blue.

Or..... you could get a set of EBC reds and swap them over when you stick your trackday wheels on, sticking to OE for road use. Quite a bit of hassle though all this innit????.

I have just been talking to Tech9 abut pads for my Boxster and they rate highly for everyday use and the occasional trackday Performance Friction Carbon Metallic Pads They are American website http://www.performancefriction.com/pages/products.htm
I hink I'm going to try them when the time comes to change

Thanks everyone for your advice. My findings (which may be of help to someone in the future) are as follows:-
The concensus on EBC Greenstuff's is that they offer a modest improvement in stopping power, but less dust.
Mintex 1144's are not (yet) available for Boxsters.
Pagid Blue's are eye wateringly expensive @ circa £140/axle.

http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/ were very helpful & I have got some Pagid Fast Road pads on order with them @ circa £70/axle.

I'll be fitting them at the weekend, but don't expect to find out how good they really are until I next get the car on track. Oh well only 4 months of cold / wet weather to suffer until then!

Performance Friction Carbon Metallic Pads

I have had these on my 03 S most of this year, in fact since Nurburgring showed how poor the stock pads are (they didnt use to be this bad).

I would highly recommend them for road and track use. They stop very well, time after time, give very good pedal feel hot or cold, only down sides; very expensive and can squeal anoyingly when cold.

how poor the stock pads are (they didnt use to be this bad).

Maybe that's why mine seem ok - I'm still on the 2001 pads that came with the car (perhaps I'm not braking hard enough then?[:D]
