alternative to repair rear bumper

Sorry if it has been discussed but my searches did not reveal anything.
I am looking for a cheaper alternative to Chiswick Porsche for repairing
the rear of my 1998 boxster. A tree intervened and leaned on the tail when
I reversed into an apparently empty space on a wet and windy night.

There is 1" split just below the spoiler and the paintwork is slightly crazed.[:(]
I wonder if replacement is really necessary and if members here always
use OPCs? West London preferred (I think it is beneath Porschembri though).

Any suggestions? (I have not been able to get an estimate from Chiswick yet)

Any bodyshop other than an OPC will be cheaper and they will repair it rather than replace.

The bumpers are certainly repairable. The OPC (and their body shops) will tell you about the 'special' plastic, etc, but a good reputable repairer will have all the necessary mixtures to get a good bond and stop any future problems. I did much the same thing as you and was quoted £1400 by the OPC body shop for a whole new bumper. The damage was just a slight indent with some crazing. When I worked out the excess and loss of no-claims, I was very happy with a £200 bill from a local repairer who is insurance company approved. For that they removed the bumper to repair it and passed it through their 'oven' thingy after re-spraying. It's just like new.

Another alternative is to source a used one from ebay - but you'll need to find one thats been stored properly as they soon get scratched if not handled with kid gloves.

Many thanks all for the replies,
I have now found the sticky post for R20 members and
I will work through the list see who offers a decent service.
As the car is not critical to my work ( I use the tube for commute)
I could easily leave it for a few days so timescale will not be a factor.
Those near Ealing/Hammersmith are prime target.

Thanks again, hope to give positive feedback,

Dr. Skids.
