Aluminium sport pedals

I've tried this sort of mod in the past & my only comment would be: if you must, at least find some that have a proper anti-slip coating of some kind. These don't and can be lethal if your shoes are wet. Been there, done that.:p

I agree with Nick. You can get them with rubber inserts in the holes, which makes them less slippery. These are from Design 911 for the Tip. I'd check with them that the inserts are rubber though.

The "lhd only" bit refers to the foot rest part of the set. I don't think there'll be a problem with the actual pedals. Suggest you contact the seller and ask for a reduced price without the lefthand foot rest.

Yes I am watching the auto version of those. I am just worried about having to drill the pedals to fit these on.

You would have to drill the pedals to secure any aftermarket kit. I would not trust adhesive.

At least these have the rubber inserts and are cheaper than the US. There is plenty of room in the foot well to get a drill and if you don't like them you could always replace the rubber cheaply or fill the holes without any real damage.

I will let you know what they are like when they arrive and how easy the pedals are to drill.

I had smooth alloy only pedals (ie no rubber) on my previous sports car and never had a problem with slip. Frankly if you have wet shoes you will slip on the OEM rubber ones!

The thing to watch out for with replacement pedals is the shape and how different they are from the originals. As you all know, the 964 is very cramped in the footwell (RHD possibly even more so). Its hit&miss as to how they compare unless you can try someone's out. Personally I took a chance and ordered some (RAID with the rubber nipples) from Porscheshop and had them fitted (drilled). They look good but more importantly they actually provide a little MORE room for my feet! RESULT!!

I bought a similar set to these from EBay a few months ago, but I went for the ones with the rubber inserts to avoid slipping issues.

I found them to be generally very good quality but as indicated in the thread you need to be aware that the footrest is only suitable for LHD cars (even if they tell you otherwise).

In order to securely fit them you will definitely need to drill in to the pedals, my car is a manual and it took me ~1hr to fit all three, so not a big job.

The clutch (not an issue for you) and accelerator are easy as they are plastic, however make sure you have a good metal drill bit for the brake as this was a complete git and I broke 2 bits in the process of drilling 3 holes (combination of having to use a small drill bit and the pedal been solid metal).

The link below gives a guide for installing.

Thanks.

Just found and bought a similar set from a UK supplier who confirmed that they were for a RHD - they were even cheaper than the US (but look the same). I am assuming that the Boxster has the same pedal design and layout as my 2003 996TT.

I will post up a report once they have arrived and been fitted.

Dave

They look liek a good option.

I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with them

Cheers

Ok....well they took several weeks to arrives and then sat on my desk for several more.

The foot rest is clearly for a LHD car despite the seller confirming they would fit a RHD (so if anyone has a LHD and wants a aluminium foot rest cover PM me). Communication with the seller was poor at best!

Anyway I had time to fit them yesterday.

The bare pedals were quite easy to drill (even through the brake pedal is metal) and then the new pedals were easy to fit on. The accelerator pedal was glued on as I did not want the bolts protuting at the back and restricting full throttle [:D] (and the supplied bolts were not even long enough so they are also just glued in to secure the position and finish the appearance).

The new pedals are slightly larger than the original rubber cover so they do restrict the space between the clutch and the foot rest for those of us with size 11's!

There is a proper RHD foot rest available at Design 911 which should compliment these pedals if you want the full set.

Even though it was a shame the foot rest did not fit (you could probably cut it down) the quality of the remaining pieces is very good and the Ebay price is clearly much better than any of the retailers if you can actually find anything similiar with the rubber inserts.
