Tyres of course, last autumn I knew that my car needed to have an alignment carried out but before my visit to CG I changed to my winter wheels and Michelin Alpins, well now the time has arrived to change back and since the fronts were badly worn on their inner edges ( it was before the alignment and the first time they were worn this way due to a worn steering rod joint ) but anyway, I searched around the various suppliers to get the two front tyres changed and found little difference in price for the online firms but Event Tyres will do it at the house. All booked and as I'll be changing the wheels over this Saturday Morning while they are changing the tyres it comes together rather well.

Two Bridgestone 050A N0 235/35 R19 fitted for £337.16 and convenient given the timing. It will be the first time I have used a mobile tyre fitter ( recommended by a friend and fellow register member ) it should be interesting to see a mobile fitter at work, given how some struggle with the low profile tyres in the shops.

Kevan I have used event tyres several times, very convenient, good working practices. Keep an eye on them though, I had a fitter (ex kwik fit!) who tried to put the weights in the most obvious of places rather than behind a spoke out of sight - where they ended up before I paid! David

It always worries me that they will be too rough when taking the rubber off and damage the rims. When I take my company car to kwikfit I watch them attack the wheels and I always say that there is no chance I would ever take my turbo alloys there. When I had my motorbike I took it to a chap who had rubber and plastic coated tools. He took so much care it was good to see. I would be telling the mobile fitter my concerns before he even started, just so he knew to take extra care !

Kevan, Just threaten the tyre fitter with wheel refurb costs if you find any (additional) marks on the wheels...! Jeff

Tyres changed, no problems and I was very impressed with the service, I was half way through changing the wheels over, rears were on and fronts were off with the summer wheels waiting for the new tyres, the calipers were all cleaned as were the inner side of the wheels. The fitter did need to do a repair on the machine that removes the tyre from the rim but even so, he was on site for only 30 minutes, wheels were ballanced and I fitted them myself since I wanted to give the inners a good clean. I will be using Event again.

Thanks for the update Kevan. I've never yet used a mobile tyre fitting service but am tempted to do so in future. At least you can keep an eye on the fitter while he (she?) is doing the work and make clear your expectations and concerns. Plus, the fitter is probably more experienced than some of the spotty youths who tend to be employed by many of the tyre factors. £337.16 for the two Bridestones sounds like a bargain to me. Jeff

Yes Jeff, the price is impressive so I checked for the cost of rears and it rounded out at pence below £800 for the full set of four done where and when you want.... As you say experienced tyre fitter and he was quick.
