And another new car

Busy week for new cars. Have now taken delivery of this from everyone's favorite German dealer with some valuable help and advice from our friend in the viagra cup car.

Anorak facts are that it was bought by a manager at Porsche so it's got a hand picked engine in it (500euros to the guy in the benchtest department helps allegedly...) and more unusually it's metallic black although it doesn't come out in the picture.

The parsimonious 200k image limit doesn't do it justice so I'll stick some more on mobile.me. The speedlines look like new (I think they are) and the overall condition is amazing for a 14 year old car.

It's not going to be a total garage queen but in this condition it deserves to be used with care and on gentlemen's track days....so it won't be out too often on track - am keeping the 964RS Clubsport and GT3 for that.

It has aircon and fancy stereo (which will even take an ipod) so it's useable in the real world when I need a rest from the 964.

Cheers. You too.

I'm probably not brave enough to drive a red porsche. The GT3 is black and the 964 is very calming maritime.

I would have thought about yellow maybe but indoors would flip.

The viper green will just have to wait.

Ian, you got the bug as bad as I have [:D]

Sooo much fun.

Just think how much less you'd have trying out a new GT2 ...[]

I was told by one owner that it was the last five new cars that did all the damage --- to prices [&o]

Very nice...was this car previously owned by IanC when it was in the Uk a few years ago?.....Just that there are not many in metallic black, I am sure you will have fun with it, they are great cars!

very very nice...but big wings and red are best (in my opinion).Hope you enjoy her as much as I enjoy mine

Yes that's the one - indeed I believe there are very few metallic black ones. It's paint code Z8.

Congratulations, that is a really nice, much admired car. Dare I say it, almost too good to use!

Thanks.

It's dangerously close to that I agree - the condition for a 14 year old car is astonishing and of course its under 20k miles. But I'm only on the planet once and it's meant to be used a bit and as long as I use it less than others are using theirs it can retain it's relative niceness. In practice it will get sensible but limited use given I have other cars for more robust usage. I'm 44 - if I do 1000 miles a year until I'm 74 it will still be barely 50k!

The PCGB days at Goodood and Castle Combe for instance with 5/6 cars are probably a sensible place. I may treat myself to a road trip down the route Napoleon one day.

So, much as I would love to give it a maiden run out this Sunday on the RMA day at Odiham, given the stone chip story at airfields I'll definitely do the right thing and take the GT3.

Suffice to say I'll do my best to look after it properly but it's a car not a paperweight.

Cheers.

Congrats on your purchase... stupendous car...! Hope to see it in the flesh one day at some PCGB non track day event !!

Ian

the Route Napoleon is a must do. Awesome road, just a pity I was driving a diesel Espace (going to race a stage of the Tour de France, so loaded with 3 bikes etc)

Ellis

PS thinking about it, wouldn't something like that be a great idea for the 15th anniversary get together?
