And what did the new MD of Porsche Cars GB choose .....

Attending a local presentation to the Bourne Motor Racing Club the other week the guest speaker was Geoff Turral the newly appointed Head of Porsche Cars GB, subject was Porsche cars through the years and an excellent evening was had by all including the occasional hint of the future for Porsche. When I asked Geoff what car the head of Porsche gets to drive he said he had just returned his 997 C4 and finally got his long standing wish of the best handling Porsche yup you guessed it a Cayman S and sure enough a brand new black Cayman was sitting in the car park. Unfortunately after giving this hot poop news he followed up by saying even the MD can't have a GT3 RS as a company car.
Just though I'd share this info as the man who can drive nearly any Porsche in the range to work and at weekends selects a Cayman.

ha ha, yes indeed, great taste Paul - pleased to see you have the PDK too. I read some daunting reviews on PDK versus Manual after I ordered it but I really love mine [:D]
 
Whether its an age thing but I would never be able to replicate the speed of the gearchanges or hit that optimum point every time as the pdk does without exception all my petrol head buddies were impressed with this car and its rapid seamless pace. I pulled over on one occasion to suprise my mate with the launch control and he thought I was going to let him have a drive so wasn't concentrating on what I was doing until I floored it and released the brake maybe a touch childish on my part not to tell him what I was up to but he just giggled like a child as the car shot forward and he was pushed back in his seat. I do have one very minor criticism of the pdk and thats the initial pulling away being so lazy and if you up the revs to feed into town traffic it usually gets initial tyre scrabble which makes you look like an inadequate driver to nearby folk. All I need to do now is let my Wife learn how to control the downshifts by the quick pulse on the throttle as opposed to the old auto kick down method of flooring the throttle. I was always impressed by my 997 Turbo's speed but grew to hate the tiptronic reaction on twisty roads and Lincolnshire's many 90 degree corners at the end of a straight which pdk devours. Sometime in the future I will marry the turbo with pdk in a Gen II turbo but for now the CS is a cracker. One of my first drives out in the Cayman was over to the Derbyshire routes to test its handling but didn't realise they had blanket speed limited the roads at 50mph and plastered the scenery with cameras and mobile vans - shame we don't have a UK mainland Isle of Man type of county. It'll be interesting where Porsche will take PDK next hopefully they will move the sport and sport plus buttons onto the steering wheel ala ferrari, I hate having to look away from the road to find those buttons at the bottom of the centre console. Perhaps a Cayman drive out would be a good idea, it works well for the 997 Register. Cheers Paul
