Look what I got.
Cobalt blue and chipped.

But I painted them today. I do have some instructions and I'm sure it will become obvious when I take the others out etc. But anyone having done this before, any tips welcome.

I gather you used your old linklage still attached to the car and filed 1mm off the 968 lugs?

You are correct. The guy I got these handles off had just sold the Cup mirrors. He was breaking a Turbo. Had a linen leather interior with black piping. There were a set of handles and mirrors on e-bay just after I bought these. Think the went for £380 together.
Yes I filed the lugs, as it is I think impossible to do it the other way and is was already the most ar$epipe twitching thing to begin with. As in get it wrong and you can't open your doors.
I did take the door cards off the other week to have a look, but they have a double skin and impossible to get to the arms and anything you drop inside the door!
 
Just to add. I used Halfords Rover Moonraker Blue spray paint, and laquer. It is not an exact match to my Baltic Blue but close enough for jazz.

Give me a tip on filing the lug.

Did you file 1mm off the front or .5mm off each side?

How did you file down to the base of the lug as its below the edge of the handle?

Never seen them that cheap before.

You only need to file the side which is the rear side, the side where the screw lug is at the back, as oppose to the barrel side. Hope that make sense. And do it down to the bottom. As long as what you are left with is no thicker than 3mm then it should be ok. I used a dremmel with the bit that is in the pic. Fairly difficult to do it with a hand file. Don't think you can get these from B+Q. Screwfix do them I think, could always lend you it as it cuts like butter.

It is fairly fiddly. Once you undo the screw and pull the handle out, you need to knock the pin out which holds the actuator arm. Then pop off the white plastic arm, luckily I had a spare as I lost one in the door. Then undo the central locking screw if you have it and 'unclip' it. The handle is now free. I then knocked out the barrel pin and pulled the whole assembly out and put it into the new handle. I didn't undo the mech. etc. as that link about chaging handles suggested.
Pop the central locking bit back on making sure the pin will line up with the V, pop the white plastic arm back on. This is really fiddly. Slide the actuator arm into place. The bit I found difficult was to put the arm pin back in. I ended up filing one end slightly so it drifted in. Place back handle and do up screw. Make sure everything works as it should BEFOR YOU CLOSE THE DOOR.
Then twitch when you close the door, lock and unlock and see if it then opens. Good luck!

This is per side (-vat) and these are the only bits you need but you will have to file 1mm off the lug to use your 944 linkage.

You wont want to undo your linkage to fit the 1mm wider 968 type, looks impossible to fit and removal of the door cards wont help.

I also purchased the outside (finger) lever, I was going to repaint mine but they are only £6.50
