Android Auto in 718

Sorry Ryan, this is not my area of knowledge at all, but I thought that the current Porsche models were already configured for Apple Car play and Android auto?

No Porsche currently only support Apple Car Play, I have read and seen numerous reports that actually the PCM is capable of Android Auto from the factory and this is then disabled by Porsche. There are suppliers out there that can enable this for you so no hardware to install. The best link I found for this was the one below which I've seen at least 10 positive reviews for.

Porsche Android Auto Activation via USB Flasher for Porsche PCM4.0 (unichip-tec.com)

I know being a supplier in Hong Kong will put 90% off but just reporting what I've seen I have no personal experience to go by.

Shame Porsche do not just do this at the factory.

Yes, a very odd omission when every (?) other manufacturer offers both. Some sort of contractual thing obviously … I don’t know who pays whom.

Audio and communication Porsche Communication Management (PCM) incl. Navigation Module, mobile phone preparation, audio interfaces and voice control system Navigation including Porsche Connect, Apple CarPlay®, 4G/LTE telephone module and wireless internet access, as well as Porsche Car Connect including Carfinder, Remote Vehicle Status, Remote Services and Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (PVTS+), (subscription required). Sound Package Plus: sound system with 8 loudspeakers and a total output of 150 watts, with integral amplifier and digital signal processing Digital radio 12-volt sockets in passenger footwell and in centre console storage compartment The only thing to be aware of is that Porsche are very fussy about modified original equipment when it comes to warranty claims, so even if you’re not making hardware changes I’d check with your dealer beforehand. For instance there have been reports of customer cars failing the 111-point check for an extended warranty because a dash cam had been hardwired in place, although I’m not sure what the situation is for the factory warranty. I think you should just buy an iPhone … but then I’m biased. [;)] Jeff

Thanks for the update Ryan, Jeff. I think the Iphone SE would be the logical and cheapest solution, but I guess it depends what else you want the phone to do. (I understand it has a wonderful facility that allows you to talk to a person directly, without having to send them a text, email, or log into a chat app. Wow!)
