For anyone with a 718 with wired carplay that would prefer wireless android auto...

I just bought this from NM automotive & it works perfectly without any modification to the car.

It's just a wireless dongle that plugs into the usb socket under the armrest & was a doddle to set up.

Now using my Samsung with android auto wirelessly.

It worked out at £126.50 with VAT & recorded delivery, great piece of kit.
 
Sorry if I am being dumb, but what is wired carplay?

I have a 2020 718 Cayman which can connect via Apple Carplay buy would prefer to use Android. The NM automotive product seems to be an ideal solution.

I’d be more than happy to stand corrected but I think you’ll find that your Cayman fits the term because it comes with CarPlay connectivity as standard and so the NM Automotive product should give you Android connectivity.

Hi Alan,

Wired carplay is just reference to apple carplay but needs to be connected via the cable as standard.

The NM automotive kit enables you to use apple carplay without a cable & also adds android auto without the need to connect via cable.

Works great for me as I have a Samsung phone so Android Auto is my preference.
