Annoying buzz/rattling!!!

Hi Guys,

Anybody experience an annoying buzzing/rattling sound coming from both door areas on your cars?

Not obtrusive, or very loud, but quite annoying. Sounds like it might be coming from behind the door panels, happening on both sides, exactly the same noise, and only when you are moving, so I am presuming whatever is causing it is the same thing on both sides of the car.

Can't really pin point where it is emanating from, but definetly front sides.

Any ideas??

Cheers.

Barry.

Yes, I had this and apparently it was a known issue at the time - 2010. OPC removed both panels and I think just fitted some tape inside them as a fix.
They also had a CD they used with variable frequencies to pinpoint the noises, quite impressive.

I have an annoying squeaking sound from the back end of the drivers door when the roof is down. Have had the door stops altered with minimal effect. The noise is noticeable when driving at about 30mph on an uneven surface. perhaps the only answer is to drive much faster!

Sandy,

Sounds like that's on the money, ta!

Mine's a 2010 Carrera.

Apparently the OPC want it in for a recall for replacement of the clutch starting switch, so I'll ask them if they will do this at the same time.

Not too fast Jon!!!

Thanks for the replies guys.

Regards.

Barry.

I have it also , seems worst on the concrete section of the M25 between Ashford and Maidstone , sounds like the seat belt tensioner rattling , but from that area anyway , now and again you get it over a bump or too.
but possibly in the drivers door

Had a load buzzing noise from just behind the passenger door on my Cayman S, had the OPC check it and by the time I was home it had started again! They had said door seal.[8|]

I removed the cover over the seat belt top mount and there is a nut and washer which secure the window trim in place, it's a little fragile and tricky to tighten but all it is there for is to retain the window rubber for the rear quarterlight.

The solution I used was to support the bolt using a spherical ended Allen Key to stop it rotating, loosening the nut and then applying copper grease behind the washer, I'm not sure if washer and nut are a crimped assembly as mine seemed stuck together but would rotate separately and so I used silicone spray grease between the two, nipped down tight they are now silent and have been for months.[:D][:D][:D]

I'm told the 997 has the same type of fitment.

this really does sound like a fix for it as it does seem right at the seat belt cover , is the cover held on by clips or how is it attached , I am no gret DIY man , cant wait to get home to try it though
cheers Hamish

Hi Hamish,

I used a flat lever, actually the file part of a swiss army knife with no sharp edges and the file well worn. A small worn flat bladed screwdriver should do.

Working along the front edge to open the joint line up vertically then as it came away from the catches worked round at the rear of the piece where it separates easier it fits very tightly when fully engaged but by gently prising it open eventually it clears. Made me a bit nervous the first time!

Pull the seat belt out so that the cover isn't pulled back and then you can see the bolt and nut with the washer. Nut and washer are plated and the bolt is black and below/behind the bar the belt comes over you should see that you can't get a straight allen key into engagement but the ball ended type will engage. Don't try to turn the bolt, if it breaks away from the metal sheet it is riveted into it's about £300 to have replaced! It's a P*** poor design cheap to produce but not to replace look at the PET diagram! Holding the bolt to stop it turning ( some turn freely others separate from the sheet metal ) undo the nut, some say to just tighten it but it made little difference to mine lubricate both sides of the washer and nip the nut up but don't overdo it. I even considered just loosening it but as it supports the rubber holding the quarterlight I lubed and secured. Had to do it twice as first time I just used a little spray grease both sides and it wore away after about a month. No noise now 9 months later.[:D][:D]

thanks , if you see a crying face in the future you Mt Bean has been at work , I will get home about Mid august and have a good Butchers Hook at it , I have some copaslip or Moly in the garage , not doubt the seat belt will get covered and the wifes best dress will be ruined . Shudder at the thought
cheers
