Annoying rattle

As the BMW had a fit returning from our daughters home in Whalton,nr Morpeth over a week ago & for various reasons is only just being sorted (may be just a loose hose connection to the engine injection pump-I hope),I have been using the e-bay 924S(trackday car) daily & getting annoyed a little at what I had been thinking was just the steering column shroud rattling against the dashboard at the top--it is a close fit-also decided to properly investigate the road noise & extra ventilation from the gearlever shroud area.

So ,I realised yesterday that the horn push seemed a bit loose-banged it onto its mounting hard but still remained loose then also decided that this was the source of the rattle.Pulled it off completely -put on the glasses & realised that 1 of the retention buttons was missing-however ,it was still in the horn push.
So pulled it out carefully with long nosed pliars, screwed it back into the steering wheel centre, tightened up the other 2,which were also loose & result-no more rattles. Can anyone confirm that the retention buttons should be tight & not floating slightly?

I bought a new inner rubber gearlever shroud 2 1/2 years ago thinking that maybe one wasn't fitted but didn't fit it as a quick inspection showed there was one in place,

Silly boy, proper close inspection now shows that round the front towards the dash, there were 2 rips/holes,so fitted some extra foam to fill a gap at the rear & the new rubber shroud-now no airflow & much quieter.

Every little helps![:)]

Yes, assuming it is a lozenge steering wheel, yes the buttons should be tight (but not murdered, obviously!).
