Annoying Seat Rattle. PLEASE HELP!

I have a 1993 turbo with original turbo leather seats. When on the move the passenger seat back rattles. There is clearly a little movement to and fro.

My garage has tightened the mountings but says there is nothing to tighten for the seat backs. I can't believe this, surely there is something. Can anyone help? It's driving me mad!!

Had this with mine - turned out to be loose change that had fallen out from a pocket into the rail mounting! Just a thought.

Thanks for the thought. No, this is definitely the seat. I can move the seat back to and fro with my hand by a few millimeters, just enough for it to make a noise. (The seat base is secure.)

Magatron,
That sounds like the diagnosis. Do you know what's the cure?

ie. What can I do, or is it a specialist job?

I've never done it before, but I would guess that the spring that holds the locking mechanism in place, and thus prevents the seat from pivoting forward, is probably worn, or the actual locking arm itself is either slightly bent or worn so that when it fits over the locking pin there is some degree of play - and thus the seat rocks back and forth slightly.

I really don't know how you would fix it, unless you could strip your seat down and perhaps a seat from a car that has been broken (these seats are used in various Porsche models aren't they?), and swap the mechanism over?

Mark, how many miles has your car done ?
My 3.2 has done over a 100Kmiles and the seats are fine. Mine are not electric though, maybe that part of the mechanism is different.

Nathan,
Mine has only done 65K but I think it had a hard life before me. My old 3.2 was older with similar miles and the seats were solid. Its just the one seat, and its fine when a passenger is sitting in it, but when alone it rattles! I suppose the solution is to have a babe in the passenger seat more often :)

Find something that is bulky, like a couple of pillows or a thick sleeping bag. Wrap a car blanket (usually tartan) around it and then stuff it (so that it fits snugly) down behind the seat into the rear footwell. Car blanket wont look out of place and should cure the rattles.
Cheers,
