Annual v. Minor v. Major Service .... WHICH ONE??

As a further development to my thread on OPC v. Independent Servicing.....I would appreciate "˜opinions' on the type of service I need?

I recognise servicing is a topic which frequently crops up... so apologies to those who have responded on this topic before ..

To keep it brief my car history is as follows:

Registered Oct 2000 by first owner
Full OPC servicing carried out up to March 2005 when sold I purchased from OPC March 2005 (12,280miles)

Service record as obtained from my service record

01/10/00 First Registered
11/01/02 Yearly maintenance @ 5627 miles
22/09/03 Yearly maintenance & major maintenance & brake fluid change @ 9163 miles
20/09/04 Yearly maintenance @ 11,182 miles

Current mileage 19,500 ie. (Less than 9000miles during the year)

So"¦ consequently:

1) Do I only NOW require a yearly inspection (considering I bought the car in March 05 and it is under warranty) ? OR go for the minor which is due @ 24k? I have so far received differing opinions from OPC's from a Major to Minor maintenance !!

2) Should I wait until 24k miles is on the clock? (about 6months time on current mileage)but then the service interval would be stretched to 18months.

Thanks! [:-],

First a clarifications: there is no service marked for 24K or 12K etc if you are doing less mileage annually, that is what is meant by:
Minor service at every 12K OR 1 yr and Major service every 24K OR 2yrs i.e. it is whatever come first in that year and not both. So 12K and 24K is the total new miles you do in that year and not the digits of the mileage meter if you see what I mean.

So since you have done less than 9K this year you can get away with another annual low mileage service but I would recommend going for the Major service similar to the one which was done on 22/09/03. I'm sure the OPC will recommend that too. I was in the same position as you earlier this month and when the OPC showed me what was involved in an annual low mileage service I opted for the full service.

At your current mileage after this service your next service will be due in Sept 06 and you can go for an annual low mileage service rather than the Minor Service.

Also like your 22/09/03 service you will need the brake fluid changed since it has been 2 years since it was last changed.

This information is correct for MY02 and MY03 but judging from your service history, I assume it is the same for your MY too, if not I am sure Mark Bennet will correct me.

Yes, I would agree with an annual service now (no oil change) and a major next year. However, in order to claim Full Porsche Service History, you need to follow the letter of the recomendations in your car's handbook. These have changed over the years, so please check the wording.
