Worked perfectly till last 2 days of euro trip, when started to register high. last day regeristing high and also fluctuating with engine speed. is this the sensor where is it is it expencive did the high temperatues damage it

The oil level will rise quite sharply if the engine runs significantly warmer, i.e. hard driving or high ambient temperature. The gauge will always fluctuate as engine speed changes as oil is drawn from the oil tank. The gauge reading is only meaningful if the car is idling on level ground. The sender unit is located towards the bottom of the oil tank and accessible from O/S rear wheel arch. Can be removed without draining the tank. Disconnect the wire to the sensor and hold to a suitable earth; with the ignition on, the gauge on the dash should move to the full position. Check that there is continuity through the sensor itself ...........

Indicator always used to relate accurately to the dip stick when idling. when on the move used to b pretty much in the red and when you slow down to a halt it would gradually move up the scale as the oil drains back into the tank. Now when on the move the level indicator is above full at constant speed. how do i check for a bad connection or a damaged sensor ?
Continuity ??????

Cheers James

Seems odd that gauge should go up when engine speed rises. Suggests that gauge works but getting erroneous signal from sensor ....... To check continuity of sensor need to put a meter across sensor terminal and a good earth - should get a resistance not open circuit .........
