Another 944 down ...

Blimey - I think "repairable" might be optimistic!!

Every time I see a picture of a 944 involved in an accident I appreciate the inherant strength of the cars. Glad I wasn't in it, and there's a lot of bodywork damage, but the all-important bit in the middle is perfectly straight.

I hate to see a car go this way, but it's great to know that they can still hold they're own on track. A little bit of me says that a car written off on track is worth a thousand concourse winners....

Your right Paul they are stong cars indeed... I do think this will go for breaking as the impact was heavy on the front, but saying that though the roof looked ok at a glance and and the windscreen hadnt gone so if the chassis was straight then may be it would be a good time to fit some fibre glass panels ...I guess at the end of the day as long as the driver is well then theres plenty more 944s in the sea ! [:)]

Was very glad to see the driver on his mobile whilst the car was being dropped off the low-loader.

It looks great on the other side. A real shame, and amazing how much damage tyre walls can do.

The most imprtant thing is he is ok.

Looks very similar to my damage (only it looks like the drivers front wing is bent too), so if the chassis is undamaged it could be panel damage only. It all depends how willing the owner is to see it resurrected or how accomodating his insurance is.

It is a testament to how well built these old cars are and though it's horrible to see it is great to hear the driver was absolutely fine

Yikes! Just realised it is a left hooker so he was sitting right next to that door when it hit the tyre wall - scarey! []

Eek! That's very sad to see. I echo the sentiments about the strength of these cars in side impacts. I hope the car is rescued (but suspect that with the values of left hookers being low in the UK it will be unlikely).

The only time I went to Castle Combe I was amazed at how many cars went off at Quarry and they all ended up in the wall, the worst was an Elise that went pretty much head on into the tyres. I can't help thinking that if they put some tarmac down on the run off it would give people a fighting chance of keeping it out of the wall or at least reducing the impact speed. A couple of years ago I had to use the run off area at Copse when the car I was following lost it on entry, and I was very grateful for it that day!

[] Blimey Hilux ... and how lucky was the owner of that Lotus IX (I think?) not to have his legs removed by an MCoupe. [:(]

combe was not particularly high on my list of must-do trackdays. After watching that video I think it is right off the list [8|]. Very sad to see the possible end of what looks like it was once a very nice '44. I hope it was insured!

The red 944 at start of this tread looks like it was a very nice one before the off

And Did all those offs happen on same day?

What they could do with there are the "airbags" they put in at Knockhill for the bikers

The cars just bounce off them with minimal damage
