Another Alarm Issue

Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone can give me a pointer on this one?

My alarm started to go off for one cycle ever 5 minutes or so last night and continued to go off even with the engine running. The car's a 1998 996 C2.

I've tried the usual things, recharged the battery, no problems there. The fuses are all fine however I've removed the tilt switch and there does appear to be liquid within the box. Can it be opened to dry it out and is this likely to be the cause of my problems?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the tilt sensor is the problem, and it is a very common issue. It is a "sealed" unit, and you will probably destroy the casing trying to get the top off.

On later cars (c2002-) a different type of tilt sensor was used, fitted under the passenger seat. They don't make the one you have any more, so the later type one has to be retrofitted, with a few modifications to the wiring. There is a Technical Bulletin for this - drop me an email if you would like a copy.

For the time being, I would leave it disconnected, to see if the false alarms stop. You MAY get a beep when you lock the car, but all other elements of the system will still function.

This seems to a tin of worms. I've removed the tilt switch and fitted a new battery and all seemed well. However this morning I've tried to open the car and first of all the alarm wouldn't stop going off and then having locked it and re- opened it, stopping the alarm the drivers door will not open via the handle. I've tried opening it with the key in the lock and if I hold the handle up with the lock turned both Windows go down but the door still doesn't open. The strange thing is that once the door has been opened from the inside it opens fine from the outside until it's locked again.
The door mechanism all looks fine so I'm a a bit of a loss with this one, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks to Richard for your previous help.
