Hope it works. [:D]

You will enjoy the experience..I rebuilt my engine @ home a few years a go and with 30K miles on from the rebuild, its still going ;-) . You might find a few tips on my link .

Not "that bad" really Steve, the biggest cost I wasn't expecting were the engine tins which were £1k for a full set!!
New clutch, cam regrind and a few add ons like the G pipe, de-cat and Cup heater by-pass are the only other things
to add to the total.
Thanks Ian I've already read your post a few times now, wish I had those skills with a spanner. Quality!!
As you've both been through the rebuild, what are your, or anyone else's, recommendations for running in the engine.
I've heard everything from nice and steady to full on straight away. To be honest I don't like the sound of the last one,
at least until it's got a few hundred miles on. Also how long before it's first oil change?

Regards,

Andy.

Unit 11 put 5W-40 mineral oil in mine for running in and advised me to keep below 4500 rpm for 1000 miles. Shortish trips with gear changes rather than long motorway trips. Oil was changed at 1,000 miles and now has 15W-50 mobil motorsport synthetic in (mostly because of my trackdays).

Yes the tins are a huge parts cost of the rebuild. Mine got powder coated before fitting and should be good for another 20 years now [:)]

The run in I ran was the same in miles and keep to 4K RPM but a swapped the oil and filter out at 500m and 1000 miles...
Then for the next few miles increase the revs ..

I wouldn't blast the engine in RPM out of the box, as you break the piston rings and they wont bed in correctly and the engine will burn oil badly !!!.

Thanks Ian, as yet I've not spoken to my Indy about this but would expect to be told
something along the same lines as Steve and yourself have said. Always nice to
get the thoughts of those that have done the same thing.

Thanks guys,

Andy.
