Another Exhausting Question!

Are all 2.7 rears boxes interchangeable 1999 to 2004 despite the facelift in late '02. (my car is an early 2002 with the older rear bumper)
My rear box has the part number 996 111 151 01 and I have been offered a replacement with the numbers 996.111.121.05 (was it superseded to 996.111.121.07)?
Any help is much appreciated...
Thanks once again.

The first part number comes back as a 2000-2002 3.2 liter muffler. Something wrong with the other part numbers.

The difference between a 2.7 and 3.2 muffler is cosmetic, the number of tips. 2.7 had a single tip, and the 3.2 had dual tips. For 2000-2002 the tips were welded on.

For 2003-2004 Porsche came out with a muffler that used bolt-on tips. So the 2003-2004 2.7 and 3.2 mufflers are the same, except for what tip is bolted on. There were 3 tips. 2.7 was a single. 3.2 was dual. Then there was a fancy dual up and down "sports" tip that came standard on the 2004 special edition.

For your model year 2002 you can use any 2000-2004 2.7 or 3.2 muffler.

Dare I ask another question? (don't shoot me!) Does anyone have any information on how to remove the rear box (muffler)? Perhaps 'Toolpants' can save me on this one! (again) [;)]

Thanks

Chris

I have noticed that the fittings on top of the rear boxes differ... I currently have the rear box with the part no. 996 111 151 01 (which is a 2.7 car 02) fitted to the car. However, I have purchased another rear box with the part number 996 111 121 07 which I believe or hope will fit my own car... fixed oval rear tip type with the m8 bolt arrangement on top. But based on what i've been told anything upto 04 will fit though on inspection they (03-04) do appear to have different fittings on the top of the box (2 round circle fixings) instead of the M8 bolt arrangement, an example can be found on ebay, a 3.2s twin tail box with these circular fixings from an 03 plate...

... can anyone clarify what part numbers can go on what car, or what fixings belong on what car?

Many thanks

Chris

The ebay muffler is missing the blade that bolts to the 2 round things. You can use the blade from your existing muffler. Why are you looking for another muffler?

Here is a 2003 2.7 muffler with the bolt on tip. You can see the blade bolted to the 2 round things.

Thanks for the information... it seems the rear box I have purchased is unsuitable for my car if the one you have displayed in the picture is the correct item... it appears from the fittings that the exhaust i have is different... to this blade type.

The reason why I bought it was (and have) to send it away to have the bypass pipes fitted to it, then to fit the box to the car.

The one I have purchased can be seen on page 61 of https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinfo/pdf/en/catalogues/E_986_KATALOG.pdf

996 111 121 07

Will it fit... sorry to keep asking 'Toolpants'

Thanks for all your advice

Chris

Ah, all has been revealed... a friend spotted this post and phoned last night... alas, I have purchased the wrong exhaust.

Thanks for all your help & persistance, especially Toolpants!
