Bit cynical of some of Porsche's more recent 'special editions', but that does look quite nice. Like the 'burzel' and 'fooks',but not the stripes. 250 really is a small run, so they will be rare.

250 sounds like this just could be the next 2.7RS and at least you will be getting something unique for the money [8D]

911 Sport Classic revealed

Porsche has unveiled the limited-edition 911 Sport Classic, a car that plunders the past of the iconic rear-engined sports car.

The Sport Classic, of which 250 will be built, gains a 'ducktail' spoiler made famous by the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 and "˜Fuchs-style' custom-made alloy wheels from the same era.

There is also a 'double bubble' roof that echoes both classic racing cars and the recent Carrera GT supercar.

A new front spoiler helps aerodynamic balance with the rear wing, and bi-xenon headlamps with black surrounds hark back to famous Porsche racing cars such as the 911 Turbo RSR from 1974.

The 3.8-litre engine in the Sport Classic has been boosted to 402bhp thanks to a new intake and engine management system, and modified cylinder heads.

There is also the new, variable-resonance intake system, featuring six vacuum-controlled flaps, which allows the engine to switch a more power-oriented and a more torque-oriented geometry.

Working on engine speed and the position of the throttle pedal, the flaps optimise the oscillation of air in the intake manifold for a better cylinder charge.

This ensures there is the perfect amount of air in the combustion chamber at all times to optimise torque, which peaks at 310lb ft from 4200-5600rpm.

The Sport Classic hits 62mph in a claimed 4.6sec and has a top speed of 187mph. The exhaust system has been developed specifically for this model and features high-gloss tailpipes.

The two-wheel-drive Sport Classic is based on the Carrera S but gains the 44mm wider bodywork of the Carrera 4S, giving increased rear grip.

The Sport Chrono Package Plus comes as standard and the 911 Sport Classic is available only with a manual gearbox.

Ride height has been lowered by 20mm and the 911 Sport Classic also comes with a limited-slip differential.

Also standard are Porsche ceramic composite brakes measuring 350mm in diameter and weighing around 50 per cent less than standard rotors.

The Sport Classic will be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show later this month and will go on sale early next year, in both right-hand-drive and LHD forms.

The 911 Sport Classic will cost an eye-watering Euros 171,500 £136500 [:D]

 
Nice .... any interior shots? Non -sunroof windy windows, colours? Those wheels will become an extra as I think the duck tail etc ..... watch out for the 997RSR.... interesting price, similar to an original 2.7RS! Porsche continue to hang on to the past with the 911 ..... they should let go and get on with the new V8 - V10 mid engined platform "911" ... 998?

When I read the 1st post I thought "A ducktail is going to look silly on the 997" - I was wrong! [8D] That's very nice - I wonder what other specials we might be in for soon? Looks a lot better than the "throw a few bit from the Techquipment parts bin on it and call it a special" that has been the trend lately. [:D]
 
Pure marketting - £135k for 400bhp, a set of stripes from the last Boxster/Cayman sp. editions, a spoiler and fancy set of wheels. You could buy an early 997 turbo and a demo gen2 997S for the same money
 
'Unique yourself'...Oh I get it, I'm unique as I've plopped down a 40k premium on a breathed on 2s..I could understand that if it was 250 cars based on the GT3 RS and tweaked. It's pretty, but for 135K I'd want something very special or am I missing something?

If it proves popular, will they resist the temptation to build some more???
 
Is it so much better than a GT3, bearing in mind the specifications and the astonishing price? However, it is cheaper than a Maserati, Ferarri, Lambo, Noble, Konsissegg, Aston Martin etc.

No, you're right. It might be very well equipped (except PDKdoesn't appear to be an option), and very rare, but for that sort of money I think it should have been based on the Gen.2 Turbo. Instead it seems to be "just" a C2S.

Based on the Carrera S, the 911 SC is powered by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine with 408 horsepower. The modest increase in performance (23 hp) comes from a new resonance intake manifold which features "six vacuum-controlled switching flaps". The 911 SC accelerates from 0-62mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds; top speed 187 mph (302 km/h); fuel consumption in the New European Driving Cycle of 26.6 mpg (10.6 ltr/100 km). Available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission, the Sport Classic boasts ceramic composite brakes, a PASM sports suspension (that lowers the car 20mm / 0.79"), a mechanical rear axle differential, and custom-made iconic Fuchs style 19-inch wheels from the Sixties outfitted with high performance tires. Designed for "genuine aficionados", the SC features throwback styling with an exclusive Sport Classic Grey paint scheme. Key styling details include a double-dome roof, a 44mm (1.73") wider rear body, a "SportDesign" front apron, clear lens taillamps and a massive dovetail (aka ducktail) spoiler inspired by the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7. Inside, the car features an exclusive interior with sports seats trimmed in brown woven leather. Other unique touches include a dashboard upholstered in "Espresso Nature" leather, an Alcantara roof lining and bright detailing on the shifter and handbrake. Only 250 911 Sport Classics will be produced, and they will go on sale in January 2010 with a Euro base price of €169,300 without value-added tax and national specifications and £140,049 in the UK and Ireland.
 
Had a chance at lunch to look through the web special properly, but for me the ££'s don't add up. Engine wise it's got the equivilent of the x51 powerkit, an LSD, body kit, every option box ticked on the interior, stripes, grey paint, two dents in the roof and retro Fuchs wheels. On all the other specials ie the boxster 550, Cayman etc you actually got pretty good value for money, although always at the end of a bodyshape run. To me it looks like the bean counters got it wrong on this one, or maybe are we just seeing the effect of the current sterling/euro exchange rate

Does look good though - I bet the aftermarket boys will be madly copying the wheels and rear duck as we speak. Might even be tempted...
