This picture of the new, limited edition Cayman S Sport has been leaked onto the internet - after Porsche released a press advertisement for the car early.

Although official details of the Cayman S Sport have yet to be confirmed, we can tell you that this more powerful version of Porsche's highly-acclaimed coupe will go on sale next month, wearing a pricetag of £49,890.

The Cayman S's 3.4-litre flat-six engine has been tuned to deliver a slight increase in power in the Sport "" which gets 303bhp instead of the standard car's 295bhp. It also gets a unique two-tone paint job that's clearly been inspired by that carried by the 911 GT3.

Suspension has also been lowered by 10mm over the Cayman S, and the S Sport should deliver performance even closer to that of the 911 Carrera.

The Cayman S Sport is £5730 more expensive than the already-brilliant Cayman S, which could be seen as brave positioning as Porsche's UK sales start to slide in the face of Britain's weakening economy.

Guess it was bound to happen that the developments on the RS60 would be applied to the Cayman. Will porsche be fitting a more powerful engine than the boxster to the next generation Cayman, to justify the higher price ? Seems odd its the only car model in the world where you pay more for the hard top , than the cabriolet with the same performance and specification ?

but as you will have guessed already from this forum, the "hardtop"!!is ssooo much more than that[:D]

Here's the press release: More Power for Exclusive Boxster and Cayman ModelsPorsche Extends Range of Mid-Engined Sports Cars Stuttgart. Introducing two new models, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, are rounding off their range of dynamic mid-engined sports cars at the top. The two new models, the Porsche Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 and the Cayman S Sport, develop 303 bhp (223 kW) from 3.4 litres, eight horsepower more than the respective S models. Both new models come with a wide range of exclusive equipment highlighted by the particularly striking design of the car and will be available at the dealership as of early September. With the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 and the Boxster RS 60 Spyder special series now completely sold out, Porsche are entering the market with new special models based on the prize-winning Boxster S and Cayman S. Only a few weeks ago, Porsche's roadster model won first prize in the readers' choice of the German motor magazine "sport auto" in its class of the most sporting convertibles up to Euro 80,000. And in a representative customer enquiry by US market research institute J.D. Power, the Porsche Boxster also came first in its category as the best model. The Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 now sets new standards, the production colour Carrara White, for a long time one of the highlights in Porsche's colour range, now receiving additional emphasis in the new Boxster: The star-spoke rims on the 19-inch SportDesign wheels featured as standard, the side air intakes, the centre console and the dials on the three round instruments are also finished in white. Sporting grey stripes extending lengthwise along the body accentuate the brilliant white finish of the car in the same sophisticated style as the red rear lights. A unique accessory coming with the car is likewise an homage to the white rev counter and speedometer: The Porsche Design Edition 2 Chronograph men's wristwatch from the Dashboard Collection features a white face and was developed especially for this very special Boxster. By contrast, the colours of the roof and leather upholstery featured as standard are really classical throughout: Stone Grey and Black. The Cayman S Sport is more colourful, coming as standard in the GT3 colours Orange and Green and proudly bearing its model designation on the side. Further colours available on this special model are Black, Indian Red, Speed Yellow and Carrara White, as well as Arctic Silver Metallic available at extra cost. As on the GT3, black rims, exterior mirrors and air intake grids form a sporting contrast also characterising the interior through the black interior design package and the circular instruments without the usual binnacle on top. Over and above the 303-bhp flat-six power unit, particularly PASM Porsche Active Suspension Management featured as standard, lowering the entire car by ten millimetres, as well as five-millimetre spacers beneath the 19-inch SportDesign wheels provide an impressive touch of power and performance. Bi-xenon headlights, the Sports Chrono Package and sports seats all coming as standard enhance the particularly sporting appearance of the car in genuine GT3 look, further enhanced by the sports exhaust system together with a twin-chamber exhaust tailpipe and alcantara finish on the gearshift lever, the handbrake, and the rim of the GT3 steering wheel. These upgraded versions of the Boxster S and Cayman S are limited to an exclusive series proudly bearing out their edition number on a placard on the glove box. Judging by the experience gained with the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 and Boxster RS 60 Spyder, demand for these exclusive new models is expected to be substantial. Production of the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 will amount to 500 units at a price in the German market of Euro 65,539 (including 19 per cent VAT and national specifications), production of the Cayman S Sport will be limited to 700 units at a price of Euro 69,942 (again including 19 per cent VAT and national specifications).

Yes, that is unusual - I guess it must come down to production volume. Normally cab versions are in the minority, but I think it likely that Boxsters far out-sell Caymans?

so do boxsters outsell caymans BECAUSE they are cheaper? Or is it more likely that a cabriolet usually costs more due to more parts and complex build (roof and gubbins)? So would the 911 cab sell in more volume if it was cheaper than the coupe? I'm confused by your thinking?

You're confused?! I think it works both ways. Boxster has obviously been in the lineup longer so is well established; I think many people think of Porsche as a soft-top brand, so immediately see the Boxster in the range and say "I'll have one of those, please". Caymans are still paying off that model's R&D, so Porsche may have priced them higher for that reason. Actually the pure existance of the Cayman still surprises me - surely it takes some sales that would have otherwise gone to coupe C2s? I guess there's a fair price difference, but do people also choose them for their mid-engine design?

ORIGINAL: spyderman Caymans are still paying off that model's R&D, so Porsche may have priced them higher for that reason.
What R&D? it's a steel hat and hatchback door otherwise it's just a Boxster [&o] Porsche have priced them higher for a marketing ploy IMO and must be laughing all the way to the bank :ROFLMAO:

What R&D? it's a steel hat and hatchback door otherwise it's just a Boxster [&o] you are a wag!! everyone knows they are ENTIRELY diffeerent[:D]

Spyderman....Boxster is now 12 years old and the Cayman not yet three... therefore Boxster a much more well known product..Cayman is for a more discerning customer[:D][:D] Differences between a 977 c2 and a Cayman start with : Mid engined 2 seater only hatchback with therefore much more usuable storage space. I'll stop there....

Porsche Cayman S Sport and Boxster S Design Edition 2: first photos By Tom Richards 04 August 2008 13:18 Jealous that you can’t afford one of the umpteen variations of [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/shared/PageTemplates/Article/Article.aspx?id=6288]Porsche’s new 911[/link]? Can’t get hold of the sold-out [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/shared/PageTemplates/Article/Article.aspx?id=3898]Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1[/link] and [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Cars/PageTemplates/FirstDrives/Detail.aspx?id=5857]Boxster RS60 Spyder[/link]? Never fear, because Porsche has the answer for you, with new special edition Boxster S and Cayman S models. The new Porsche Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 (breathe) and the Cayman S Sport both now develop 303bhp from their 3.4-litre engines – eight horsepower more than in ‘S’ guise. Those power gains come from the same sports exhaust tweaks that made the [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Cars/PageTemplates/FirstDrives/Detail.aspx?id=5857]RS60 Spyder[/link] sound spectacular. Hold on. Tell me about this Porsche Boxster first. Isn’t it a bit 1980s in white? Carrera White in fact, and the phrase ‘greed is good’ does spring to mind. In true Henry Ford style it’s your one choice of colour, though grey racing stripes down the sides and over the top of the car help set it off. The red rear lights are lifted from the RS60, while the Edition 2 also gives you white 19-inch alloys, white side air intakes and, you guessed it, a white centre console and white dials. Finally, to make sure everyone knows you’ve got a special edition Boxster the [link=http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/First-Official-Pictures/Porsche-Cayman-S-Sport-and-Boxster-S-Design-Edition-2-first-photos/#]car[/link] also comes with men’s Porsche Design Edition 2 Chronograph wristwatch, from their romantically titled Dashboard Collection. Of course, it’s white. The Boxster S Design Edition 2 won't be coming to the UK though, but European prices start at £51,896. Yes, that's £52k for a Boxster, nearly £12k more than a regular S! Right, enough of that nonsense. What about this RS-inspired Cayman? If you own an GT3 RS then you’re probably horrified, but we quite like this Cayman S. It’s definteily a better use of the RS script than on Swedish special-edition VW vans and Transybberian Cayenne rally cars. Plus it's coming to the UK. For £49,890 (a mere £5640 more than the standard car) you get the aforementioned black graphics and the choice of green, orange, red, yellow or black paint. Silver will cost you more though. PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) is standard, lowering the car by 10mm, while 5mm wheel spaces give the Sport a wider footprint. Other exterior tweaks include black wing mirrors and 19-inch black wheels. Inside you'll find a GT3-esque wheel and gearstick covered in Alcantara, the Sports Chrono Package and leather-trimmed sports seats. Just 700 Cayman S Sports and 500 Boxster S Sport Editions 2s will be made. Porsche calls it ‘rounding off the range’, but we can’t help but think that there are some idle thumbs in Stuttgart this summer. And some happy accountants…

Correct me if I am wrong (I am sure you will find it in your hearts to do so[;)]) but I can't see that there is anything unique on this model that you couldn't spec from options anyway? (on an 08 model).
