Hi all,

i have splashed out on my first ever Porsche Boxster, a 2000 2.7 in silver. in fact it's the first prestige car i have ever owned! i have a few questions to ask if anyone can help me out please.

1) I have seen the abbreviation RMS used in the forum, what does this stand for? it appears to be something i need to check out?

2) i am wanting to fit an IPOD in the car. Halfords do a kit & fit it for free but i think i may have an ugly bracket stuck somewhere, does anyone know of any alternatives??

3) polishing. have been looking at the ZYMOL range but are very expensive, what do you use?

4) does anyone know who is a porsche independant in the north-east? i get the impression that many people mix between OPC and an independant for servicing.

i got a very good deal with Admiral insurance, £396 with protected no claims (33 yr old). best quote i had by a long way.

thanks.

1. Rear Main Seal.. see http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=178253&mpage=1&key=RMS&#178253
2. Look at http://www.dension.com/main.htm
3. Zymol ...its excellent, well worth the cost

PS welcome to the forum - you'll enjoy the car

That seems a good quote on the insurance How many years no claims did you have and is there a restricted mileage?
I too have a 2000 2.7 from new and have no desire to change or upgrade.Fantastic Car best I have ever owned 72,000 miles and as comfortable as an old shoe!

thanks for your replies. Most helpful.

Cary,

i was very pleased with the insurance quote which is why i put it on the forum as it may help others out?

i have ten years ncb, there are no restrictions and is insured for just being parked on the driveway.

your comments on the car are reassuring.

Just be aware of the restrictions on cover Admiral put in place. You might not get all the value of your car back... And if you have not told them all the options on your car (metallic paint, alloy wheels etc) - which they will then charge you for, you might not be covered!

Just to add another opinion, I don't look any further than triple wax for it's monthly waxing. Mine's currently standing outside in the rain and the water beading on the body work makes it look like it's just come out of the show room. The amount of shine is related to the amount of work you put in IMO. The more expensive treatments won't do it for you [;)].

2) i am wanting to fit an IPOD in the car. Halfords do a kit & fit it for free but i think i may have an ugly bracket stuck somewhere, does anyone know of any alternatives??
Don't let someone from Halfords even sit in the car never mind fit something in it!!
I use an FM transmitter to listen to MP3 player, cd player etc, even laptop and Sat nav can be played through it. All you have to do is plug the transmitter into the 3.5mm headphone socket, tune your radio to a particular frequency and listen to FM stereo music. Plus you can use it in any car and in the house on the hi-fi.
It is powered by either AAA batteries or cigar lighter.
3) polishing. have been looking at the ZYMOL range but are very expensive, what do you use?
Try Swissol , much easier to apply then zymol.

Welcome to Porsche motoring.
Cheers,
