Been owned by the same guy for 19 years and had a full OPC respray a few years ago?? Done very little miles in 10 years and needs a set of belts as last changed about 7 years ago. Had a recon turbo not long ago and a gearbox rebuild after 2nd gear syncro went. All work been carried out by OPC Merlin in Nottingham. Looks very clean but quite storng money if it needs belts.

Seems strong on the money. Is it the angle of the photos, or do the Tele-dials look too shallow?

At the top end money wise, but looks very clean. Is it a 220 or 250 - I'd guess it's 220 with the Tele dials and I'd like to see it on later/larger wheels. Belts are only about £60, so if you can do them yourself, no big deal, but I'd also allow for rollers, tensioner, front oil seal after 7 years.

More importantly, does the aircon work fully? If so, you'd like to think an 'unmolested example' sub 100k miles with perfect bodywork and FPSH, would achieve circa £6k.

I'd certainly be tempted to go and look at it.

If the sills and suspension mounts are as sound as the exterior and interior I would buy it and spend the money it undoubtedly needs - or if I had your workshop skills and facilities, do it myself - it looks a beauty. If I were looking for one rather than having one renovated in easy stages, I would be down there like a shot to look at it.

Unless there is good reason to think otherwise, it would seem prudent to anticipate changing the water pump & thermostat while doing the belts. The brakes are not mentioned so at that age one would have to assume plate lift unless proven otherwise, or recent caliper overhauls shown in the history. By the same token any 20 year old car with 96,000 miles on it needs bushes and dampers too. All of that has to be expected with any car of this age though, unless it has already been done in the lats couple of years. Regardless of the current dirt-cheap purchase prices, these have to be regarded as cars for people with pretty deep pockets, or the time and ability to do a great deal of DIY work to a high standard.

Picked up a copy of one of the lower-order classics mags in the newsagents today: as a result I wish I had had enough space to keep my 1988 Opel Manta GTE with tuned 2.2 Carlton engine, four-pot calipers, quick rack and uprated suspension. When I sold it in 1995, needing a bigger car, I got next to nothing for it. Apparently a solid standard one is now worth £7K to £10K and with the right sort of sympathetically upgraded spec, even more. Shows how cheap the 944 is now.

Assuming the bodywork is as immaculate underneath the paint (why the full respray?) then I would say it's likely to be well worth the money. FMDSH on a car that's done around 2K miles per year, how many sets of pads and discs did they sell him in that time! [8|]

I know he has shown it as a 220BHP on the listing but its listed as ' 88 model year'.

This car was first registered on the 4th of September 1987 so its defo not a 250 model.

A nice example body wise potentially ? and strongly priced, but either its not as good as it sounds or he has under done the advert. By that I mean there are no stunning pictures etc , in fact the pics are poor. You could easily assume this car is average but maybe it really is exceptional and just not a great ad ?

If I was after a 220 944T I'd defo phone him and chat to him at least.

A 'potential' buy at 5,500 perhaps ?

(P.S they look correct for 87 Turbo Teles to me)

Mas

I am going to be visiting my mum in Nottingham tomorrow so will be paying a wee visit. SWMBO has even said that is OK which I was rather shocked at!

If it's a 220 Turbo, then the air-con was an expensive option and not standard (I think). I don't often see older model Turbos with a/c.

(ref aircon..) Really? I thought it was standard on all Turbos, but an expensive (and rare) option on S2s and other models...

My early 86 has aircon, the wheels do not look like Turbo Teledials with not a lot of rim on show ?

For me it's not the car I would go for. Looks nice but steap price for what is a good looking car. But each to their own. Not sure I like the Turbo stuff when its not one.. abit boy racer.. I like plain. Ours is all plain no badges just simples..
