Another question - noise from rear...

Hello again helpful people,

When I picked my 89 S2 up I noticed a faint squeak from the nearside rear wheel, which I thought was either the new disks and pads or a bearing picking up.

I've done about 1200 miles since, and took the car out today for a longish drive. As I slowed from about 60 to stop for a roundabout I could hear a "zshhh-zshhh-zshhh" noise from the rear of the car which slowed down with the car and stopped when I was stationary. I noticed it again a few times and have narrowed it down to coming from the nearside rear. The noise is audible particularly as you slow from 40-0. It's also there regardless of gear or clutch..

Jacked the car up at home and started the car etc. Apart from noticing a noisy thrust bearing I can't really narrow the noise down any further, but I have no play in the wheels...

Any thoughts chaps?

Thanks again,
Justin.

I wondered about the shoes but they were apparantly renewed about 3k ago, and I couldn't change or stop the noise when I pulled the handbrake up as I was coming to a stop...

Mine does it sometimes - not all the time - usually if i'm in slow traffic and occassionally on a righthand turn.I thought it may a disc warping slightly when hot.

Usually it is either a warped disc as 944cabby says or the pads are uneven. You can try flattening the pads down with some emery paper and putting some copper grease on the pads edges and back. If it is the discs and they are pretty good, you could get them skimmed. It is definitely the discs though, even I've got the noise.

Is the disc dust shield still firmly mounted? they can fatigue corrode as the mountting points are fairly thin and work loose.
Tony
