Took our 1990 C4 into OPC Leicester for it's anual service and MOT,passed no probs, they fixed an oil leak and a couple of other jobs but during pickup they had to book the car back in for a factory steering recall,it is going in on Friday to have a part fitted, don't really know any more but will on Friday.Just thought i would mention it as there was some recall talk fairly recently. Our car was totally up to date recall wise so this must be one that is new.Like i said when i have a recall number and which steering part they are actually doing i will post again.
Impressive service from Porsche for a product they sold 20 years or so ago!

Hi Mark,
Sounds a good one for Porsche to recall the car back due to a part that needed recalling back when. Out of curosity, how much did they charge you for the service and other misc. bits.

I should imagine that it will be the steering column universal joint-Porsche made the replacement especially so that it could be retrofitted with the minimun of work to existing cars.Ours was done the first time I went into the OPC in Liverpool 8 yrs ago-recent offer on the forum to check the status quo for all our cars indicated that ours is now clear regarding factory recall upgrades.[:)]

Nice![:)],that sounds like what i am having done a steering joint was mentioned....?,Its had recalls in the past and it has been into the OPC since they moved into next door to my work, funny how its not been mentioned before.
Norm. Including Oil, filters, nuts, bolts, fastners, gaskets, plugs,MOT test, replacing my mat fastners!,getting me back on Friday for recall £590 quid before VAT big bill i know but they did alot of stuff for that and it leaks less now,

Its going in next thursday now, apparently its a 1996 recall and it is a steering universal joint replacement, they had to get some tools in to do the job from another dealer..

Gone in to Leicester opc this morning, had a look at the parts diagram and it looks pretty involved for a free recall, they reckon at least 2 hours maybe a fraction over, thats what i call product backup.....(20 year old car!?),i wonder if the steering will feel "tighter" and have less play?[8|]

Blurred pic of our old little white Porsche next to a new big white Porsche[:D]

This is the bit they swapped under the recall, looks like they had to cut it off?Apparently took more than 3 hours..

Interesting pics. I noticed at the weekend that mine looks a lot newer than yours does in those photos. In fact the steering column on mine has more of brassy type of sheen to it. Since this one never came up when I asked about outstanding recalls on my car, I guess it was done a while back.

Does a car have to have been continually serviced at a OPC to qualify for recalls. Who will hold records as to what recalls have been carried out on what cars. I recently enquired with the dealership where my car first originated and to my supprise their data base didn't keep records that far back [&:]

Paul, recalls are independent of age or service history. To find out if there are any recalls on your car just send an e-mail to David Kneen at Porsche Centre Byfleet: recalls@porschebyfleet.co.uk.

Send him your full VIN no, registration number (only for verification of VIN if any discrepancies arise) , club membership number and post code (first 4 digits only needed)
. You'll probably get an e-mail back the next day with information. If there are any recalls, you'll then be contacted by your local Porsche Centre to book the car in for the work. No cost to you.

Of course, the Porsche centre gets the money back from Porsche so it's worth their while doing these things [;)]

Steve I emailed recalls@porschebyfleet.co.uk but got a bounce back saying email alias not recognised... Do you know of any others I could use?

Thanks

James

You're right, the domain doesn't seem to be operating at the moment. You could try filling out the contact form that routes to Byfleet through the main Porsche website. You'll find it on the Byfleet contact page here:

Hi - FYI got a message back from David Simpson. Tried calling him at Byfleet and ended up speaking with a chap called Richard. Was most helpful and verified that my car has no outstanding recalls.
