Another service, another RMS leak

Just taken my 4 year old Boxster in for its second service, and just like the first service the RMS has gone again.

According to the Porsche centre-it will probably be paid for by Porsche under goodwill- however it may depend on whether Porsche object to me having non standard front brake pads !

So the brake pads were the cause for these RMS failures after all [:D][:D]

Personally I would expect 100% support and if your OPC wants a contribution of a single penny go direct to Porsche Reading and give them a hard time []

Good luck [;)]

Hi Ian
I thought that the rear main seal was only supposed to be a problem on the 986 and 996 engine?
Am I right that yours is a 987 and has had 2 failures in 4 years?

RMS is vulnerable on almost any Porsche. I've had it replaced on a 993 and a 997GT3.

New design and fitting procedure makes it less common these days, I believe.

I am a new Boxster owner and my 10 year old 2.7 has a very slight RMS leak. From what I have picked up looking at lots and talking to specialists they are unless really bad best left alone. It is I belive a very common problem on these cars.

I hope the OPC does it FOC for you.

I am looking to change by front pads and discs what ones are you buying ? I have been quoted £280 for Bosch discs and pads at my local garage fitted. They are a good act and this seems reasonable.
Regards

Paul

Assuming the first RMS was replaced at first 2 year service? The repair is warranteed for parts and labour for 2 years excepting for Porsche's sneaky caveats. If they won't pay and there's no obvious little puddle of oil on your garage floor then leave alone.

I did ask if changing it was really necessary- I've seen previuos comments saying just ignore if the leak is small- the technician told me that the leak was sufficient to warrant a change. (If it gets done under goodwill I suppose its better getting it done because If I refused then I would probably end up paying for it later on)

Two year warranty on repair- I thought that repairs made under the original 2 year warranty were only guaranteed until the end of the original warranty period ? Anyway i took it for servicing 2 years and 3 weeks since the last service.

Disc pads- I changed the fronts to EBC reds- they generate far less dust than the originals- I haven't had to change discs yet.

You may be correct, I never had to put it to the test.

The new DFI engines dont have the intermediate shaft hence no intermetiate shaft seal to leak [;)]

Also heard no stories of any RMS leaking at all. [:D]
