Another Special 997 - Black Edition

I know it's yet another parts bin special, but I actually really like this one. It's a lovely spec, and works out about ÂŁ6k cheaper than speccing it up from a base model.

Lol .... I did see somewhere that you could have it in Bassalt Black as an option.

I see nothing special here. Just like a sale promotion for last 997 season. May be White Edition, Silver Edition, Grey Edition in a few months

Hmmm...Speedster - I can just about get that (although too pricey) GTS - I can definitely get that, but a black one? What's that all about? I watched the "web special" and am still none the wiser! Using up surplus paint maybe.........[:)]
Oh, and it's a b*gger to keep looking clean and shiny...........[:(] Still, I'm sure someone did the research.

porsche are obviously very keen to shift these-i was rung at 830 by my opc sales manager wondering if i was ready to change to another black 911!!!

as mark says i think i will stick with my special edition,at least till proper new model comes out later in year![:D]

When I visited the factory in September, all the cars on the line were Turbos, (especially) Turbo S's and the other specials like GT3. Hardly any "cooking" 911s and they were working only 4 days. I expect demand for the car has fallen away dramatically in anticipation of the new announcement hence this steady trickle of specials. The Black version doesn't do it for me but the GTS is an attractive bundle. If I want to be depressed, I think about what my 997.2 turbo might fetch on resale now...

but you`ll be keeping your machine for ever mark!![:D]

with all the hype about the 998 being totally different ans a major advance.....blah blah i expect there will be many waiting for the new one as you say.whether it will be such a major advance remains to be seen of course!![:D]

I dont see what they can do to make it a major jump what with EU5 emmision restrictions. The only thing they can really do to make it a better drive is make the car a lot lighter. A large loss of weight normally means stripping out tech kit and creature comforts (eg. GT3RS) something I very much doubt the 991 will have less of. So really the 991 will just be a larger 997 + Panamera interior + a lot more 3/4 letter acronyms. I don't see that as being a major advance.

Now if they used the downforce technology in the concept RedBull X2010 used in the PS3 game Gran Turismo 5 THEN that would be a major driving advance!

A "fan car" is a vehicle having a fan mechanism which forces the air out from underneath the car, to reduce air pressure under the car's floor. The resulting suction draws the car to the ground surface and creates a massive amount of downforce. And because it can create downforce regardless of the vehicle's current speed, it dramatically raises its cornering speed even in low speed corners.

A major advance in the cost too, no doubt![&:]

I agree. The GTS being the only wide body RWD Carrera, I consider it a new model. The Black Edition is just an existing model with a special price for with regards to the extras thrown in, which is great from a price perspective.

However, while I guess there is a place for that sort of thing, to include it in the 'model' line up seems a bit strange, as if to say, "if you want a black one you have to choose the Black Edition because that's the black one in the model line up, but, erm, as it happens you can spec any of the other 'models' to look like this, erm... actually we should have just called it the Carrera 2 Special Edition because, erm, that's what it is"?!?!

Now there's a Boxster S "Black Edition".

It's black but also has +10 bhp.

How much is a re-spray ?? [&:]
