Porsche's hotter Boxster S

02 February 2011

Porsche has revealed its Black edition Boxster S, which the company will showcase at the Geneva motor show in March.

Limited to 987 examples, the S's 3.4-litre flat-six engine gets a 10bhp boost to 316bhp and 7lb ft hike in torque to 273lb ft over the standard model. That equates to a sprint to 60mph time of 5.2 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than the Boxster S.

As the name suggests, each model is finished in black inside and out with black-rimmed steering wheel, black touches to the dashboard and instrument cluster as well as black roll-over bars, side air intake grilles and twin exhaust pipes.

Other features include lightweight ten-spoke alloy wheels, Black Edition badging, Porsche's "˜Communication Management' including sat-nav, MP3 player and Bluetooth and LED daytime running lights.

On sale from March, the Black Edition Boxster S is priced from £47,426. Included in the price is an invitation to the Driving Experience Programme at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone.

Porsche is back in black with its second limited series Black Edition model. Following the 911 Black Edition, this is the Boxster S Black Edition which goes on sale here next month. The Black Edition is priced from £47,426 "" £3,626 more than the standard S model.

For your investment, you get one of a limited run of just 987 cars worldwide. Each car is finished in black and features the same, uprated 320bhp version of the 3.4-litre flat-six that powers the Boxster Spyder.

That means the Black Edition will sprint from 0-62mph in 5.2 seconds with a six-speed manual gearbox, 5.1 seconds if you opt for the seven-speed PDK twin-clutch box and just 4.9 seconds if you stump up for the Sport Chrono Package Plus.

Other spec highlights include new lightweight 10-spoke 19-inch wheels, which shave five kilos from the car's kerbweight, Black Edition badging, black leather trim, and black-painted details inside and out.

Black Edition cars all come with auto wipers, cruise control, sat-nav, auxiliary input for your MP3 player and uprated stereo, and xenon headlights. A day at the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone is also included.

The full suite of options is still available, including Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and adaptive sports seats with memory function.

Ahhhh !!! Another 'Edition' ..... so what follows ..... Panamera, Cayman and the 'Bus'

Why did Porsche bother developing the Spyder and shaving 80kg to only take a standard weight Boxster S then add some extra kgs with sat nav and the other toys ending up with a car that's only 0.01 secs slower to 62mph! None of this is making much sense any more [&o]

Because the new one will be out very soon.
Have to keep the sales figures up with a special edition or 2.

Hope this isn't the only run-out model for the 987 - was hoping for something more special along the lines of the GTS! Interesting to see they have put on a 10bhp power hike, though.

Hey, at least it is more 'exclusive' than the 1,911 run 997 'Black' Edition!!!
