Another speedo problem further update to the SC

Right , had the car into Camtune for a major service + a list of niggles and things to sort.

The long and short on the speedo front is that its getting a pulse up to the head unit so it looks like thats buggered inside , now i guess that the odo gear is not stopping the speedo working ?
Anyone had a failed one repaired or tried themselves ? i know there is a VDO agent somewhere near Brum ..or used to be .

A big thumbs up to camtune , great job done ,although second gear is still a little sticky at times , but have been told it feals totally normal , and in fact seems a good solid car , so thanks camtune for confirming what i thought .

Heat exchangers will be the next big job , as they are totally rotted , but for the nex few months it will do .....

drives loads smoother now too.

I recommend you give Jeff Caplan of Odometer Gears a call USA 7575933478.
Jeff has told me that he will advise anybody in the club, he is a fantastic guy and so helpful.
Tell him that I said to call him I know he will help.
Cheers
John

John i stripped the speedo today and found all the gears are ok , the problem with mine is a couple of wires have shorted together taking out the circuit board .

so my aim is to find another speed to rob the board , or to get that board repaired

the hunt continues.

That's exactly how I repaired mine when the speedo's CB fried, it's an easy fix if you can solder.

I was offered a whole speedo by a pcgb member. Ask around for a dud you might get lucky, you take pot luck though without seeing it working.

Harv,
I recommend you talk to Porsche apart, I bought a new rev counter from them @ £90 and this type of gauge rev counter /speedo they keep in stock.
I'm sure they will have a speedo you can rob to get the part you need.
Good luck
John

I had my speedo stop working when it went into the paint shop at Roger Bray's for it's rebuild.A couple of miles down the road on the way home from picking up the car the odometer was about to change from 59 to 60 when I heard a load ping! .I guess the heat and the vapours made something seize inside. The car was owned by a smoker so there was probably some gunge inside that set like glue.Because I am so sad about originality I bought a used speedo to pass the MOT and gave the original to Roger to save myself the hassle of organising it myself. He sent it over to America for rebuilding with a note stuck on it with strict instructions to keep the original mileage on the odometer rather than reset it to zero.Trying to find a used speedo identical in every way to my own one was not an easy task in itself. It cost about £120 for the refurb and took about 4 months but at least it is another original part still on the car.
By the way Roger said he can't find anyone in the UK able to refurb VDO instruments to a decent standard and that's why he sends them to America..VDO aren't interested in supplying parts and the two main UK companies that claim to be experts in this area are anything but.
Good Luck!
Steve.
