Any 944s going to the RS day at Oulton Park this Friday?

Was a great day last year with loads of gorgeous machinery around, both on track and in the paddock.

My Dad and I are going in convoy so look out for an elderly gentleman in a red 964 trying desperately to keep up with a red 944 Turbo.....[;)]

Lights touchpaper and retires.....[:D][:D]

But on a serious note, there will be loads of opportunity to get passenger laps in with various resident Oulton 'gurus' (yes, that means you Big Dave!) and even the weather forecast is looking half decent!

Cheeky b****r - this from the man who thought Oulton Park was in Norfolk......!![:D][:D]

Mind you, having just caught sight of my ugly mush in a mirror, you could have a point.....[8|]

Well things haven't been going quite to plan for me this week and at this precise moment neither car is ready! [8|]

My emergency back up plan - the 944S, hasn't been straight forward. Firstly the ebay seller who I ordered the Porterfields pads from thought it was ok to sit on my money for 3 weeks before shipping, so they've only just left the US [], the place I ordered the Hawk HP+ pads from when I found out the above supplied the wrong size (they sent S2 ones) so we've run out of time and had to fit standard pads (which are useless on track). To add insult to injury another supplier still hasn't managed to get one of the front discs. They claim they should arrive tomorrow, but they've been saying that all week!

The white car is running behind schedule, it hasn't been for its MOT yet and still needs a few bits fitted to it as well as the service. The plan is the front bumper, mirrors and a few other pieces will be whacked on in the morning and then I'll go to an MOT while you wait place, then assuming it passes dash of to get it taxed...

The clear low tack tape I ordered to protect it against stone chips has been another nightmare, and two firms have now let me down but happily taken my money. I'll have to find some low tack masking tape on the drive up tomorrow which will look a bit naff.

There are lots of other problems but I will not bore everyone with them as it's enormously tedious!

To be honest it's not quite the relaxing start to the first few days I've had off in months that I'd hoped for...

The guys at RPM have been brilliant as ever, I've landed a lot more hassle on them as its become very last minute due to the various problems, but they're still doing their best and the bodyshop have done an amazing amount of work (apparently the car now looks stunning, I'm itching to see it).

Peter,
I intend to come down and spectate, i have some clear "helicopter tape" in the garage on a roll if you want me to bring that down with me, it can be cut to shape, let me know.
Cheers Jim.

Thanks Jim, that's a very kind offer. I'm not sure how strong the adhesive is on that tape, but I suspect it might be a bit too tacky? I was hoping to find something that would just be temporary and will come off very easily at the end of the Friday without risking any harm to the soft paint.

The heli tape comes off easily when you warm it, but to be honest I wouldn't want to stick it on fresh paint.

Keep taking the tablets Peter, everything seems to suddenly become a rush after a long project. I really can't wait to see it either.

Cheers Paul, the tablets weren't strong enough but a few Whiskeys did the trick [;)]

I'm just back from Oulton Pork and I'm pleased to say the white car made it along [:D]

It was awfully close but everyone involved pulled out all the stops (and then some) to get the car there (thanks again SAR and RPM). There were a few hastily painted bits which will be redone in the coming weeks but the car was quite presentable considering everything thats been done recently.

I'd not been to Oulton before, the videos and games hadn't prepared me for the gradients involved. Big Dave gave me a few passenger laps early on which were invaluable, the only problem was I felt decidely dodgy afterwards which I can only assume was due to the hilly sections (nothing to do with Daves driving which was exemplary as ever), and it was after lunch before I was feeling good enough to go out and have a proper go myself.

Considering the car hadn't turned a wheel in 15 months it went pretty well. There hadn't been time to refit the rear spoiler so it ran without one which in hindsight wasn't the greatest idea! I had a lot of instability from the rear under braking and through the faster, bumpier sections. The brakes were going off quite quickly too so I was breaking very early and easing off on sections where I knew could be flat out, but I just kept reminding myself that this was really just a quick shake down test and it wasn't worth taking any risks. The car passed its 200,000 mile mark on track which was nice, although I suppose there's not much left on it that left the factory in '87.

The weather was brilliant and driving standards seemed very good, so I'll be booking this one again next year.

I didn't get many good pics and the video I have is a bit ropey, but I'll see if there's anything I can upload later. If anyone managed to get a picture of the car in action I'd be very grateful to have a high res copy as I want to have a print done for the bodyshop as a thank you.

That is looking outrageously sexy Peter.

How did the door mirrors hold up? I had similar (SPA IIRC) on the Westfield. Stupidly light but difficult to adjust, and more difficult to keep where you put them.

My word that is nice [8D]

Funny to hear the lack of spoiler made such a difference. I would have thought it was only effective at triple digit speeds. Extremely glad you got it all done in time

Now get the RPM lads to bolt that supercarger on []

Peter, I have posted my link to some pics on the other Oulton RS thread on here - quite a few of you in action tbh!

Good to meet you on the day and see the car in the metal after reading about it for so long!

Thanks Nick, some really brilliant pics there [:D]. Good to meet you yesterday too.

I should point that the front end is a bit temporary which is why nothing quite lines up in the pics, the front bumper is now one piece which I think works well, it still needs a little reshaping (the right side flares out more at the bottom) and requires a little work to get the join to the wings right. The good thing is a mould will be taken, so when the inevitable happens I can get a replacement made quite easily. The aero latches will do a much better job of getting the bonnet to sit right too.

The Clubautosport lights days are numbered, they're really dreadful, I'm in the process of trying to get something much nicer. Anyone want to buy these useless, illegal, ill fitting epitomes of nastiness? Thought Not! Think I'll have to word the ebay ad a bit more carefully than that :ROFLMAO:

Paul I'm hoping it was the spoiler, it could be something else but that's the first thing to try out. You can see the car squirming in some of the vids, not nice, I've never edited vids on my PC before so it may take a while to upload anything. Also, something is vibrating when going over 100, not sure what it is yet so a bit of experimenation is required before a high speed trackday.

John, the mirrors were fine, they're not ideal for a road car and did flop down when I ran wide onto some rough curbs but other than that they work pretty well and weigh almost nothing. I forgot to add in the last post, the car is now so responsive, it leaps forward in 2nd and 3rd in a way it never has before. 'Tis bloomin loud though, earplugs are definately needed on the motorway.
