Any Guidance Appreciated

I have seen this on ebay and wondered if anyone new of its' history.
It looks interesting. Would it be any use for track, or do I need a 3.0 ?
What was the range ? 2.5 and 3.0 Were all S2's 3.0 or did they also come in 2.5 or other variants.
Excuse the ignorance but I am a a 964 owner. What do we know about front engined motors ?

Thanks for help.

Your E bay link seems to be missing? I'm guessing the car you are looking at is a 2.5 Lux?

The variations are roughly
2.5 (8v) lux 160 bhp
2.7 (8v) 163 bhp
2.5 (16v) S 188 bhp
3.0 (16v) S2 210 bhp

Then there are the Turbo's all of which are based on the 2.5 8v engine.
Early 220 bhp
Late 250 bhp

My own car is a 2.5 lux, it will never set the world on fire in a straight line but I do take it on track, its not embarasingly slow and its amusing to drive.

Hope this is of some help.

Buy a copy of Peter Morgans book 'Original 924,944,968' It is available from Club Shop (phone 01608 652911) and it should answer all of your questions.

It gets more complicated as Lux's are split into two:-

Square Dash - The earlier car. Had 924 dashboard, pressed steel front wishbones and big hubs which won't accommodate later wheels without spacers.

Oval Dash - The later car. New interior, better ventilation, battery in the boot, flush windscreen, alloy wishbones, different hubs, plastic fuel tank, revised gearbox mountings, radio aerial in the screen, remote boot release. Inside the late Lux is little different (if at all) to the S2 and a nice place to be.

Considering the low price of 944's currently I wouldn't consider a square dash unless it was in exceptional condition and, even then, you would get better value for money with a 924S (same car without the big arches).
