Any idea what this "spare" connector is - close to the MAF

While I was cleaning my air filter earlier in my '02 C4S, I noticed a connector that comes from the same point on the wiring loom as the MAF - close to the right hand side of the air filter box. At the moment it isn't connected to anything.

Any ideas what it is - should it be connected to anything (all seems to be working OK).

Probably something to do with the 'air pump' fitted to US models - this is an aux pump that helps emissions, not normally fitted on European models though but wiring harness may have the plug for it ...
