Any ideas on this noise?

morning
when turning on the ignition, at the exact moment it catches there's a scraping noise from the engine area that probably lasts for less than half a second. It doesnt do it every time but is getting more frequent now so I'll be taking it in next week, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas in advance please?
could it be the starter motor on its way out?
cheers, Craig

Probably Autumnal starter solenoid drag-motor out good clean of all gear teeth, spring etc will possibly sort it.

I hate tempting fate but here goes...i impulse purchased some of that redex stuff last week and put it in at the same time as a full tank of shell super unleaded...& the noise has disappeared! Coincidence or not I'm not sure but anyhow what a result.
