Any owners with Stainless exhausts?

Oh wise one's, what have I done!

The rear box on my Lux had a hole in it, so I thought it'd be good to put a fresh new Dansk stainless exhaust on it. As I wasn't sure if I could get the bolts undone, I only bought the rear box and not the middle box, with a mind to doing the middle section soon after.

All went well with fitting and I was very pleased with myself, especially since earlier that morning I had tried and failed to remove the rear caliper bolts so that I could replace the discs, and I'd thought that removing the exhaust would be impossible too!

Anyway, I waffle on. The point to this post is that the noise of the exhaust which was one I was very happy with, is now more akin to a chavvy racer boys escort/saxo thingamajig. [][] [:'(][X(] And the most annoying thing it only really sounds like this when the revs go through 3k upwards, which is when it sounded at its best before [] [] []

What have I done!!!!! I've been trying to keep her as original as possible and now I feel that I have ruined her.

So, I suppose my question is will the sound improve/get worse if I install the middle box? Are there any sensible alternative suggestions? ;-(

Do those who have a stainless exhaust on an early Lux, like their engine note?

Feeling sorry for himself

I had a Dansk one fitted at the Porscheshop open day last year. Quiet as I've ever known. It's the default "standard" choice now, and I'd certainly not think of it as noisy. If anything it could do with being a bit more "fruity" IMO.

Are you sure there's not a problem with the bit's you've not changed, maybe worse now you've been undoing old bolts?

My 220 has one, just a bit more noise than standard when you let it off the lead ? are you sure everything is leak free and tightened up ?

That's a fair point - I suppose it could have exposed a weakness in the middle box.

I will order the middle box now and report back.

Appreciate the quick replies
Perhaps I should change my details to Panicker of Guildford!!

I replaced the complete system on my 'S' for the Dansk one (mine fell apart- well it was the original ! ). I only notice a difference from the original when I go through a tunnel with the windows down [:D]

Dansk replacement for the lux is the best value for money aftermarket part you can buy in my opinion. Fabulous workmanship and a well judged volume for half the price of a usual replacement.

..however I blew the baffles out of mine by abusing it too hard when it was first fitted and then it sounded rather raspy.. which was nice;)

Given that the Dansk isn't known to normally increase sound levels significantly, I suspect there is something wrong with yours. I'd phone the supplier / manufacturer to discuss.

I had a similar prob with a 2nd hand Janspeed back box ~ the packing material had been blown out / melted so it wasn't doing anything. Repacked with long-strand competition material by a local SS fabricator (who made custom intake and exhause bits for Colin McRae's collection) - it was fine.

I fitted a Dansk rear box to both my S2 and Turbo and they were both noticeably quieter than the old systems they replaced (probably because the internals had long since worn out). If yours is uncomfortably loud then something, somewhere isn't quite right [&:]

ISTR somewhat lighter then the factory replacements. I bought the original replacement one for my S2 many years ago now, my word is it heavy but the quality is superb. SS just as 944man said.
