I recently read the Track Day Guide in PP which advised that you should not use the std alloy wheel nuts for track days and instead refit with steel ones. Is there a problem with the alloy wheel nuts or does it just affect track day junkees where the heat built up in the hub area is more than normal and cornering forces are higher?
I've often wondered about the fatugue affects of the alloy nut thread. I wonder how many tighten/loosen cycles the nuts can safely whithstand assuming a torque of 100ft/lb? Especially since I got a 2nd hand set of nuts shortly after buying my car as alot of the nuts were badly corroded so god knows how many cycles they've clocked up so far.
