Wondering if anyone has anyone dealt with Tower Porsche in London Bridge/ recommend an Indy within SE London or North Kent as a strange engine rattle noise (gets noiser as revs rise and remains even if i drop the clutch so assume engine related) has appeared and wish to drive as short distance as possible to get it checked out?

Strangely it drives perfectly, oil pressure normal and no warnings on the dash....

Thanks,

Steve

I have heard good things about RGA Porsche in Vauxhall. I haven't tried them though.

Problem was identified as a broken/ruined bearing in the alternator.

Reconditioned replacement alternators seem to be the norm. I notice that both Lucas and Bosch brands are available, with Bosch about 20 quid more. Is one any better than the other and is reconditioned items ok? Do they normally come with a warranty?

Also confused as on 911 design, the tiptronic alternator is about 100 pounds less than the manual - anyone know why?

Thanks,

Steve

Strange. Porsche used to list separate exchange alternators for manual and tiptronic, but now they list the same part for both. 996.603.012.2X @ £293.28.
