Anybody got a 993?

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anybody else had a 993? I very recently got one and I've got a couple of niggles with it but I'm not sure if I'm being overly fussy or not. Trouble is, I've got nothing to compare it to and was wondering if I could meet up with somebody that had a 993 for a bit of a comparison? I live in Glasgow near to the Sherbrook Castle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a C4 on lowered suspension and EBC pads but otherwise pretty much standard. I'm in the Falkirk area.

What's the niggles?

We are having an Autumn Run on Sunday meeting at Duck Bay, why not pop along I'm sure there will be other 993's there or if not previous owners. Details on other thread.
Contact Scott Laurie our RO to see if there are spaces to come along for lunch.

Cheera Alan.

noticed your posts on the forum /I think you should get the dealer you bought it from sort out your niggles as the car obviously has a 3 month warranty .everyones car will drive differently

As above - what are the niggles? - and come along to events. There are a few long term 993 owners in region and we can explain how ours are worse than yours(!) and you should not worry[;)]

Thanks for the replies.

My niggles are with transmission chatter and gear shifts - I know the gearbox can be a bit tricky when cold and mine does improve when it get warmer. Also, there is a fair bit of chatter from the transmission once it gets warm so I just wanted a rough comparison before I took it back to the dealer - indeed, that is if I have to. I may just be being paranoid as a new owner. I understand that everyones car will be a little different but I would love to have some sort of comparison and/or opinion.

I could try and come along on Sunday morning but I doubt I could do the run (I will try!).

Thanks Clyde. Are you going on Sunday? If not maybe I could meet up with you some time that is convenient?

Many thanks,

Ossie

Oh I've now realised these are the "niggles" in the thread on the 993 forum. Yes the chatter will need to be listened to! You are right to get these things settled with Strasse now. If you don't get along to the run tomorrow, I and my car may be in Glasgow Monday and we could compare.

Hadn't made the connection with your other posts Ossie. I would suspect that the "transmission chatter" is the release bearing but as Mark suggests without hearing it it is difficult to say. My gearbox is a bit clunky when cold but much less so when hot.

Can't make the run tomorrow sadly but I'm more than happy to meet up at another time.

Thanks again guys.

I think I'll come along tomorrow morning to say hi but unfortunately I can't go on the run. I'll try and get some opinions tomorrow if there is time before you all head off. If not, maybe I could take you up on your kind offers of meeting up?

Ossie

You sure it is not a single-mass RS flywheel in the car? They are noisy.
I don't have any history to say that it's had its flywheel replaced. I guess it is a possibility. I've got no idea how I could tell though - any ideas? Maybe a comparison with another car?

Hi Ossie , nice to see you along at Duck Bay this morning - welcome to the club - love your 993 it's a lovely car . Hope to see you at some more meets

Cheers
Barry

Thanks Barry, was nice to meet you all this morning. It was good to get a few opinions and a bit of advice. I will definitely make it along to more meets. Hope you had a good drive today!

Ossie

Quick update on the new car. It took a little while due to work commitments but I eventually got my car back to Strasse for them to check the gear box chatter. This was after getting opinions from my local indy, OPC and of course your good selves. Many thanks to all.

It turns out (as suspected) the dual mass flywheel was completely shot. Strasse fitted a new one and also put in a new clutch while the transmission was out. I paid for the clutch (at trade price) and the labour was FOC - can't say fairer than that. The gearbox chatter has now completely gone.

Good man, sounds a fair deal.

No doubt we will see more of you and the 993 in the spring months if not before....

I think we will probably have a few beers in Glasgow over the christmas break as usual so maybe see you then.

Whats the spec of your car again Ossie?

Paul

Hi Scott,

I'll do my best to come along for the club night. I'm working in Manchester at the moment but hopefully I will be back - I won't know until nearer the time.

Sorry to hear the black car didn't work out. I'd be interested to know what you thought of it.

Ossie

Glad to hear you got your problem sorted with Stasse, hope to see you at Meet next week.

P.S. I thought it was only Women who reffered to cars by their Colour.

car was nice, 57k miles, black and black, sports seats, some history but needs service now, (stupid me - didnt check it had aircon) before I drove to north london on sunday morning - not from glasgow mind ! but still over 5 hour round trip, but the diff bearing was making nasty noise which is a £2k+ fix, not sure I fancy a car without aircon, unless the price is right, got another two possibilites, actually still fancy a cab, but nothing good around at the moment, most are gaytronic which i hate
