Anybody up for a rare Boxster.... ;-)

Sorry I cant see what makes it rare? Its certainly not a Spyder or limited edition of any kind![:-]

It was one of the first special editions, before there was a Boxster S. And in that colour scheme I'd doubt many were ordered. Apart from the odd wind brake it seems standard.

So no not a Spider, but interesting in its own right.

The photo below is from an August 1997 leaflet...

There's a good reason for that, it is eye-wateringly hideous.

It was also the sub-"popular-plus" end of the spec range - no air con, no decent stereo package, no wind deflector (thats a deflector from a carrera cab which has been cable-tied to the roll hoops), not even the proper original wheels to make it a collectable/heratige model.

If the Porsche staff had any morals they would have crashed this car on the test drive, or made sure it was pushed off the boat on the way to these shores.

As it is its about £3K over-priced and should probably just be stripped for parts.

Wow - you learn something every day! Hadn't heard of these specials before, but I did know some of the launch colours were, er, special!

Chris.

Sorry i kind of like the colour...once nearly bought a 996 Cab with grey interior in that colour a few years ago There is a guy who comes to a few shows as well as PITG has this colour of Boxster

They were not specials as such, they were a selection of pre-selected trim packages. You could select one of the packages and then add further options if you desired.

I had no idea these "special" packages existed.

Were there only 3? My '99 2.5 is Zenith with full grey leather, aluminium gearstick and handbrake lever and the Sport Design alloys from the GT3 - and I've seen others in a very similar spec. Perhaps another "pack" of options, or just coincidence.

Yup that's what I thought, they were an option, to which you added other options too.
