Anyone attempted 997 seats in a 944?

IIRC the turbo seats were also used in most 911 models from that era, not so sure about modern seats and as already asked...why?

I think the runner design prohibits it; 944's bolt to the floor, later 911's have side-mount runners that aren't compatible without a LOT of work.

(Don't quote me. I'm not sure where I picked this info up from.)

Yeah anything's possible from a Skilled fabricator to design and make bespoke brackets as long as they will physically fit.
I'm guessing you've seen some for sale and are wondering if they can be made to fit ?

If they are like these, they look fairly slim but you'd need to measure...

I'd be 99% sure the runners won't line up with the 944 captive nuts in the floor........

In the good old days it wouldn't have been a problem to fit spacers, bridging brackets etc. Now, with the seat belts fixed to the seat frames, a contorted connection between the seat brackets and car structure could be down right dangerous and might fail an MOT. And you cant just drill new holes in the floor as they may not tie up with a structural rib.

That said, if the new seat runner mounts are in board of the 944 you could perhaps use a reasonably robust steel angle to bridge to rear floor mountings to give you new mounting points.

The 944 is from the good old days, and the seatbelt mounted points are not on the seats but the B pillar and the side of the tunnel

So you can fit any seat you want with any brackets / frame and use the standard seatbelt mounting points

No need to drill holes in the floor, the 4 Captive bolt holes are fine for a frame to be made to suit the new seats mounting points.

Hi All,

Cheers for the replies. I used to have a Cayman S and loved the seats compared to my 944. I'm looking to improve the 944 interior with modern seats, all black interior, remove the rear seats and add the club sport seat delete kit. I would also like the 19" sport design alloys :)

Ok, the 997 seats should go in then with some Fabrication!
I'm with you on the black Interior and Rear seats Delete,

But NOT 19" Wheels unless it's for "show use only" they are not suitable
for many reasons !

17" Max unless you want slower acceleration? and to have a 944 with appalling & poor: ride, Economy,handling and driving traits etc....

So it could be possible. I'm going to message the person that posted it on another forum to find out how they got on. It does look nice imo but you wouldn't be able to flip the seat forward. This doesn't both me much since I wouldn't have anyone in the back anyways.

Yeah true the later type's used that bracket which bolted to the seat Frame, the prospective 997 seats also have that arrangement which could be used in the same way or I wonder if the captive nut in the body is still there on later types?

The old ones are the best lol!

986/96 seats will fit 924-derived runners. Late cars will require late runners and this will be harder to achieve than people realise, and usually involves importing lower spec parts from LHD markets.

"Will Fit" does that mean direct? or with the aid of a grinder, drill and hours of work modifying etc..,

The seat rails on 986 / 96 go across left to right not front to back like the 44 has and the prospective OP's question is for 997[/b] seats, do they fit as well? or as above do they also have to be modified.....

what I've found:

The original seat is on the drivers side:

The mounting rails line up but you need to bend the tabs up on the front:

There is a gas- shock that controls the height. The other write-up says to cut this off. I could live with the slightly higher position so I left it on.

I had to rewire the connectors for the power seats, it's only a couple of wires:

Really not that bad of a job. I like the way the new seats feel and the support. Look good too! I'm 6ft/200lbs and have plenty of legroom, but the seat is a little higher.

Legroom doesn't look too bad, although that steering wheel is smaller than OE.
So a bit of bending, wiring and cutting about and they're in!

Just the steering wheel now needs moving over to the right [:)]
