Anyone else ordered a Cayman?

Just wondering if anyone else here has put money down on a Cayman S. I put my order in early and have been garuanteed a car before the end of the year [:D] But I have not heard from Porsche about when and exactly what number i am on the queue.

Has anyone received any confirmation of delivery from their OPC?

[:D]What number is irrelevant surely [&o] If you are getting a car before the end of the year and the launch isn't until the end of November 2005 you have to be in the first 6 cars I would guess Exciting stuff

Yes, delivery in Jan. My OPC are getting 8 in December, 8 in Jan, and then only about 3 or 4 a month for the next few months it seems. Still no sign of an options list, but I guess it's gonna be much the same as the Boxster S. OPC reckon that there may be a sports exhaust option, but not for the 1st batch (ie. mine), which is a real bummer.

I have a deposit down - number 10 in the queue. From what I read above, I should expect delivery in Jan/Feb. Although I expect that numbers 1-9 in the queue may defer until 2006 and that would bring me forward (probably to do the same)

Options, I understand are the same as for the Boxster.

According to Autocar it's better than money in the bank [;)]

Why do you expect that? Surely if you can have one now you would? Or am I missing something?

hmmm..that is interesting...anyone interested in my spot? how much of a premium do you think a 2005 delivery will get?

I was called by my dealer last week to see if I'd follow my letter of intent with a deposit. I was 10th in the queue at Colchester OPC but withdrew on the account of the fact that I have just taken delivery of my 987 and did not envisage the Cayman coming so soon (Feb). I'll hang onto this for another year or two and then see how the land lies - quite fancy an RS.

This is what happened to me with the 987. I was due to get the car in Feb 2005 but was offered a car to my spec in Dec 2004. When I asked why, the dealer told me that the people in the queue ahead of me were happier to wait until Jan or Mar 2005.
I guess the reason is that the car's value is greater at resale if it's a 2005 as opposed to a 2004 or in case of March - on a later plate.

Hypothetically if I was offered a Cayman now of course I would take it. But in Dec - I'm not so sure.

Deposit down, but I don't have a position number in the queue yet. Dealer says he has 60 firm orders with deposits against his indication of 100 allocated for 2005/6 at the start of the process. I'm hoping for a January delivery.

[&o]Unless I had a mutually acceptable delivery date my money would stay firmly in my bank account. Once a garage has the deposit they can manipulate the deal to suit there plans rather than the customers.

On hard to get tackle human nature comes into play. Even back in the good old Boxster boom phase of 96/1997 I managed to get a firm delivery date after testing the car in Nov 96 with a delivery May 97. Many dealers were quoting 12-16 months at the time so my money/business never went there way [;)]

You were very kucky Robert, I waited 13 months for mine. Ordered in April 1999 and picked it up May 2000. There was about a month's delay for the price drop.

JCB..

We've been told we can get a October build slot, so we are hopeful of a pre-Xmas delivery.

Dealer has given me a copy of 2006MY Boxster specs which include a sports exhaust option (£1000+[]). So they might make it a Cayman option[8D]

I suspect not though, whilst they rattle off a few "standard" cars to get deliveries moving[]

For some reason Porsche are deleting the seat back pocket, which I find really useful[&:]

doh, my OPC told me that Porshce hadn't sent them out yet when I asked on Tuesday, but sounds like you've got one already! Who gave you that?

just spoke to my OPC and they still can't confirm dates?!?!?! they said that the first batch (end Nov erlay Dec delivery) will get about 48hrs to make up their minds on options etc to spec their car for the October build date. That's a bit ridiculous isn't it?

Be thankfull you are not in America - You'll pretty much get whatever the dealer has ordered in the way of options...

LOI a year ago, pre christmas delivery indicated by dealer, though I think will hold off till march as more time to decide once test driven rather than rushed into it.
