If you decide you like the car enough to buy it & it's just a matter of price, take it to Zentrum in Carlton (other side of Nottingham) for an inspection. IIRC it's about £85 & they will give you a good idea of the condition & any problems (and likely cost to repair).

Here's the car - It's the Cobalt blue one on pg 4:

Hopefully I'll be going in the afternoon. I'm up near Leeds, so it's gonna take me a good hour to get down there. I'll be confirming a time later today with the seller.
Give me a call if you can make it.
Cheers,
Richard

Doesn't look like it has air-con? But then that probably wouldn't work anyway! Not leather, but then I prefer cloth personally.
As it's main dealer history check it's had the cam chain replaced, or check the cam condition. It's not in the official service schedule.
Looks pretty good value as well!

I had a lengthy chat with the seller & he was pretty honest about it. It has Porsche history up to 70 odd k miles & independents to present. It does need the belts doing (which he's factored into his asking price), & he did mention a slight surface rust bubble on one of the sills, which hopefully isn't too major! At that price I don't mind spending a bit on it to get it right.
Cheers,
Robbo

It's got potential - but it's also got rust [] - bottom of both front wings, o/s door, lower front rear wings, small amount on the sills, so it's a bit of a gamble....
The rest of it is very nice - belts nearly 5 years old though [:-]

So if it's more rusty than normal, and needs a major service, and is not that well specced, or cheap.......
Which bits were very nice.....[&:]

The interior was very clean, motor sounded good, Richard tells me it drives well. The rest of the bodywork was in VGC. Sports seats, bridge spoiler are both good options.
oh - the clock didn't work & the gearlever needed a new gaiter []
Any 944 will need money spending on it (even that 19k one - or maybe especially that 19k one! [])
this one looks a better bet Richard

But, I suppose that any car will need some bodywork repairs. I'd certainly be a little disappointed after reading the ad....

Weighed up the pros & cons - The sills were pretty much rust free (inside & out), although as Ed said, the bottoms of all four wings were rusted & will deffo need immediate bodyshop work. Fingers crossed it's not going to be too bad! (Famous last words!)
On a positive note, the test drive was excellent, the rest of the car is immaculate, the service history is pretty comprehensive. And after some hard bargaining, I got it for £3800! It's got to be worth a punt at that price?! I'd already looked at several 'immaculate', 'unmarked' examples at £5 - £6k, which were anything but! I've got used to cars not being as described, it's annoying, but seems par for the course these days unfortunately.
I'll keep you all posted!

Well, I bought it!!!
I'll shut up, then.....[]
Seriously, I think you've got a good car there if you accept that you'll have to spend money to correct the problems that you know about. Don't be afraid to get the work done properly and you'll always have a really good car, in the right colour, for fair money.
The standard advice is that an S2 will cost you £1500 in it's first year to fix the things that were wrong when you bought it. That's the depreciation in the first year of owning a Perodua Nippa.....[&:]

I could have spent £5-£6k on a 'seemingly' perfect S2 & ended up having to spend £1500 on it. At £3800 plus a contingency of £1-£2k (which I have set aside), I'll hopefully have a really good S2 which I know has been sorted, & has still cost me less than £6k.
I'll be getting it booked into Strasse in Leeds as soon as I get it, for the belts doing & a good check over (especially cam gear Ed!). Then it's off to the bodyshop!
I see a long term project coming on! []
A big thanks to all, especially to Ed. I'll keep you posted.
Cheers,
Robbo
Yes, but realistically the Perodua is a better bet as it comes with added social opporobium, and you get to feel like a minor celebrity as people stop and stare as you go past.ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty
