Carrying on from my earlier post here http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=484139 I have started looking into the costs in a bit more detail, so if any of you fine chaps just *happen* to have a 3.0 ltr engine (along with DME and AFM) knocking around that they dont need please let me know [:D]

Also which are the most reliable breakers/garages to approach ?

And on a last note are Douglas Valley on a quest to buy up every damaged 944 in the land ! (not that I would use them as they seem well overpriced and aren't exactly popular ! )

I honestly think the car mentioned in the other thread is really well worth considering, having a donor car alongside yours when you do the swap is a massive help. Even with a very experienced Porsche mechanic doing mine he had to reference a couple of other S2's to do my swap properly.

I'd expect a good engine will be in the £800 to £1,000 ish region (although can't say I've been watching the prices recently) so it makes that car a bargain, especially if you're able to break what's left over (but the engine, brakes, gearbox and exhaust etc etc are worth that money on their own).

I'd be wary of buying an engine from a breaker unless I saw it running and its service history, best to do as I did and find someone who is breaking their own car so its a known entity. The other option is to budget a couple of grand or more for a full rebuild, but even then you want to know what the bores are like before spending the money.

i have one that has just been taken out of my 1989 S2.

i have someone interested in it but if that falls through you have first dibs

Peter,

Donor car is a idea nice and makes financial sense idea but SWMBO would go spare if there was another sat on the driveway !
