Anyone got a spare Rad fan motor?

After an ongoing issue for quite a while now where my radiator cooling fan cutting in has intermittently blown the fuse, the fan seems to have given up the ghost altogether! I still have to do a check with a meter to ensure that the power is actually getting to the motor connector, but thought I would put the word out up front to see if anyone has a spare sitting in a dark corner of their garage?

Nathan,

I can't help in your quest, but I'd be pretty sure that something like a fan motor would be common with VW's of the same era - particularly as yours isn't an S2 or Turbo.

If I was in your shoes, I'd be taking the fan motor out and trundling down to a local VW specialist to find out what sort of thing it looks like, then rolling on to a local ECP or similar to buy a replacement.

Thanks Oli - hadn't thought of doing that but bearing in mind that a new Porsche one is going to set me back well over 100 notes I think I will look elsewhere as you say. Would you believe the fan started working again today when I got back from work! Maybe I have a loose connetion or something so further investigation is needed I think!

If it is a loose connection then investigate this - as it will cost you pennies (if anything) and will save you having to splash out on a new motor (which, if the old one isn't duff, will be a waste of spondoolix.)

Sometimes motors develop intermittant faults with their commutators, which can be temporarily cured with a sharp tap. Try this next time it packs up, perhaps.
